!!!! Help !!!!

Post by its_that_guy2 »

my engine arrived last night and well it looks sooo damn different to my engine in the truck at present .. apparently it is a 3b... and seems to be . but everything looks different on it ...

was there two types of 3b ? is it possible a 40 series 3b was different to my 70 series ? or is the 70 series 3b an odd ball one ?

im lost as to weather i actually start to pull my engine out or if i have to just realise i was a dumb bastard and bought the wrong motor !

am wondering if it is a 40 series one if they possibly had different injector pumps etc on them and if i can swap my things off it .... or not and what other changes were made etc ..

i was hoping to have this done and dusted this weekend but looks like ive opened a can here
any info would be great
i may not be around the comp as much as id like to be so maybe text me on

I am by no means an expert on B's. But so far as I know, there are different injector pumps between models.

An inline pump, and a rotary pump.

One is said to be far superior than the other. Which one, I dont know. And why, I forget.

That might get the ball rolling.
Im sure someone on here knows enough to help you more.
Just wait it out. Keep asking.

Tim.

Inline pumps and rotary pumps. Rotary are better cause you can play around with them more. Not sure but i would imagine they are interchangeable would pay to check though. Motors should be the same should have the big 3B stamped on side of the block.

Thats pictures of my 3B which someone (sorry cannot remember who) said it looks to be quite an early model hence the inline injector pump

Are you sure it is a BJ 70 because the motor is more like an earlier one.

From 1985 onwards 70s with the 3B had a rotory pump

Cheers Richard

Agree with that. My last bj 40 (1982) looked like that but Abbo's 70 looks totally different

Unless your going to actually modify your pump or turdbo your motor the inline one should be fine I would think.
I have one on my Patrol that used to have a turbo. I talked to the mechanic that put it on and took it off again (to fast for the farmers kids haha) and he said the only problem was there was more of a delay for the turbo to kick in, but it could light all four wheels up and once when it did (he though that was a good thing, I'm not so sure haha).
