This mat sound dumb but are you tilting it up while trying to ingage spline ? if you dont the axle drops down at the diff end and wont ingage :)

I thought I was going to struggle big time when I did this on my 80 Series but I just aligned the cv and shaft in a straight line then slowly lifted up and down a couple of times till I felt it was in the right place then put pressure on the cv while spinning it and it went straight in.

I've heard other people struggle for hours so I guess it was just a luck thing.

yeah all the weight is at the diff head end so you kinda have to lever it up a little to get it to line up. mine slipped in pretty easy once in the right spot.

Feels like it is in the right spot as I can feel it going through the cap but seems to stop when it gets to the spline. I have a spare rear diff head so am able to measure the distance that the shaft has to go in.
Might try spinning the diff tomorrow while someone tries pushing the shaft in.

Could always wait for my birthday, sometimes works at home...
