terrano climate control problems
Hi Guys,
know a fair bit about my truck and how to fix but am damned if I know anything about this.
Problem: blower only goes on fastest setting. Aircon won't switch on despite being switched on. Air flow out of dash and feet area despite which switch is selected. IE can't move the airflow from current setting. Temp setting is really hot or room temp nothing in between. All switch lights don't illuminate when switch depressed to the on position.
Any ideas on where tyo start. Would prefer to do it myself rather then pay some bugger to do it.

I presume you have checked the obvious fuses for heater/aircon etc etc.
Switches not functioning sounds to me like either a fuse(s) or maybe the wiring harness has become dammaged or unplugged from behind the switches and has caught up in the linkages to the slider control for airflow.
I know in my 95' Terrano it is a very tight squeeze in behind the dash with the wiring looms but Im not familar with yours tho.
Hope this helps in some way.

PS: Take it to an auto sparky... electrons are funny things...
Another option is to ring C Nissan and ask them if there is a stupid computer etc that does some of the AC control and where it is. You can then check if it has water dammage or loose cables there.
I know from stripping 1/2 the dash and pannels from mine at times that there are comps and boxes all over the show.
Anyhow I would ring first, even a auto sparky or 2 for ideas as you still may be able to do it yourself and save some $$$$

Off to the local libary tomorrow to get the chiltons manual, very detailed. Resigned myself to pulling the dash apart, only way to find out what's in there.
As for the local Nissan dealer, they are an embarrassment to Nissan. I have resorted to phoning Auckland now for info as those guys in town have cost me dearly by supplying the wrong part
. Stupid me believed his bullshit story even when my guts was telling me different. Taught me a valuable lesson about dealerships=idiots.

My thoughts Al, definately the comtroller for climate contol, nothing else would cause all those problems at once
, find it on the wiring diagram and start there, might not even be behind the dash board with any luck
P.S about time you upgraded being a Toyota man I'd never guessed I'd say it but....................a Nissan Safari is the rig for you
, M8 comes a time and I gotta say it's now, bite the bullet and stop spending the dosh on the Terrano, buy a Safari, you won't know yourself, you can put your 33's on it, fit up all your gear, you'll have a sweeeeeet rig (beam axle, coil sprung) and it'll still be a Nissan
, but seriously time's come man do it




P.S about time you upgraded being a Toyota man I'd never guessed I'd say it but....................a Nissan Safari is the rig for you

Actually... I must confess I have occasionally thought the same thing... Would have to be a LWB high-roof one with a 4.5 Nissan V8 in it, but yeah...
Although I was looking forward to the cut-n-swap axle project for it... still, will just have to buy a Terrano and do one for myself... after the MU is finished, after the Bighorn is Chev V8'd and SASd and finished, after the D-cab is sorted, after my surf is supra'd, falcon'd and lifted, after the 5 or so jobs I have on are done... oh god, alright... someone else do the Terrano

Looks can be deceiving... mall cruiser alert! Anyone with a whole page dedicated to his doof-doof is obviously building a pretty-boy truck (IMHO)
Although I think the cost of doing up a Poo-Troll to big-bad status is probably gonna set you back a cuople of k, so overall it won't be that much of a saving...

Al. I had the same problem with my air-con fan only running on high.
Turned out to be the heater resistor. This is a sizable trinket mounted back and behind the glove box. Removal of the glove box and undoing of a couple of the dash mount skrews on the extreme left should give you sufficient access. I watched it being done on my Terrano when I first got it. Solved all the problem. About a 15 minute job. It is not uncommon for these to go. I was fortunate as my truck was on quarantee. Hope this helps. Cheers

place , on the back wall you will see the wires go to a small box its the thermostate houseing it control the temperature when you are on auto there is a small coil and when it burns out the fan will only run on 3 it took me days to trace the problem , the thermosate only costs about $30

The wreckers, It was the wreckers that found the problem, I though it was the heater switch, I dismantled the dash and took the complete heater switch out tried a new s/h one from the wreckers still the same, By then I was getting realy pissed off , It was the wrecker that found the problem , He took my glove box out showed what screws to take out while he went and got a s/h thermosate five minutes later
