I can actually see where you are coming from. Most people (myself included) do want everything for nothing
Unfortunately when you spend nothing you get crap 99% of the time that requires more wasted money.
I can not really see anything wrong with your work- It just looks a little unprofessional in some places but really IMO can not see why it wouldn't work well at its intended purpose.
Do you have any photos of your equal length headers or any of your other parts made? You might find if you are willing to produce J pipes ETC for people here for a reasonable price you'll have a good little weekend business starting.
phone Ross Bolus (secretary of the BOP club) He'll save you.

i can see how you think that but from start to finish from picking it up to droping it back making everthing as i went was 25hours an it goes fine. could i see yours?? mot being smart. ill put extractors up when i figure out how to put them on haha sorry.
an j pipe?? i know its a easy way for joe blogs but the log manifold shown it east simple an flows way better than a j pipe on cast the cast iron manifold ever would hace you looked into one an seen how rough the flow is for the exhaust? once again tho it comes down to money witch it always does but i port each exhaust it mite not look flash but cheepest easyest way an is all about flow.
Lynx wrote:Everything else looks good apart from the sealant before the turbo, shouldnt do that, what happens if it goes throught the turbo???
i know thats not ideal but iput it more round edge an sealant wouldnt chip turbine an anything an would fall off apon start up??
i like feed back as i an young(ish) a learn as i go (an fitter turner by trade so is kinda new working on motor fine points) but i have turboed 8 trucks myself now safaris/patrols/hiluxs/navaras an havnt had complaint apart from noise of exhaust/external wastegate. an its not a 'turbo kit' as such more custom to there requirements as everyone has different needs
flyingbrick wrote:How much for you to make me a log style manifold like in your tm pics. I need the flange in a weird position but we can talk about that later.
also need pics of how you do your collector.
hey manifold 350ish? how you mean collector? where turbo meets log? its just cutan welded in then die gound out to be smooth flowing
no woreies i will haveto get them off the my folder at work but will get them to you for your opinion. an in the process of making front facing plenium for easier intercooling and better performance. do i get photos of your work?
am i passing the test of still going through the paces? haha sorry
gary_in_nz wrote:shame you too far down south i would like to check out your work
year that the gay bit is location. i can make a kit but would rather fit it as you would know how some people slap it on. if you ever down this way tho get in contact for sure
not wanting pics to criticize you. I'm wanting pics as I need a turbo manifold.
I'm a fitter turner too- However mostly deal in electric motor/generator re-shafts/manufacture of replacement housings etc and do not do much welding-although i have paperwork that says im competent in it-I'm pretty much a total novice and have no doubts your fab work is better.
I'm about to do a rearward facing plenum for my own engine- Am just working with a welder (who will do the welding for me) on production of aluminum trumpets (which i will be forming)

why rearward? ill get them off computer tomorrow an get them to you. oh k we mainly do fab o=an procision machining, also do lot of work with winches from trawlers, haulers anything an an 95% done a hydraulic winch in a friends safari mounted in the back etc just in the fine tuning stages, has 2 speeds high an low with caplebl off huge fast pulls
Safari Swb wrote:hi i would also be interested in a manifold for $350
sweet as, my cell is 0276985140, are you in a hurry for it? an where abouts did you want the flange? an what turbo are you using? my phone is bit dodgy at time to haha. it will be 2 maybe 3 weeks before i can start as are swamped under at work at the mo an behind on the perks list
Has anyone fitted a DSR 480 turbo to a safari? Trying to find out if the specs will suit the TD42 I am looking for response down low not out right power. I have no problems with the make as I have fitted one to the car for a year now and am happy with its performance for the price. It's the specs I am unsure of. This is all I can find on it at the moment:
DSR480
For Big power application Water & Oil-cooled, 0.84 turbine housing suits T3 size flange Internal wastegate with 8psi actuator Suitable for single-turbo applications on 2.5-4.0 litre engines, or in twin turbo kits on 5.0 to 7.0 litre engines

it is prety much same as t3/t4 if anything slightly bigger but would suit it, wont come on full boost real low but it will come on strong when it does, well thats my opinion
Cheers so the T3-T4 will come on to boost sooner than the dsr 480? What other turbo options are there for low down response? Tui Man 2 what turbo would you use for best response?
GU patrol 35s ect.

t3/t4 will come on same as the dsr480 as they are prety much the same. to get low down boost i would use a t28, t3 ,td05-20g, td05-25g or gt2871r witch is ball bearing faster spooling turbo. but these turbos will run out of puff up top in revs as will start restricting your exhaust. what is your main use? an do you like to rev it? hah stupid sounding question be relavant an manual or auto? i would use a gt3271 or t3/t4 for more power right through up high but wont come in as low, your dsr480 would be much the same.

hope been some help or confused you haha
Mine is manuel, I do like to rev it but find theres no power after after about 2500-3000 rpm anyway so thats why I want one to suit low rpms. Use truck as a daily driver but turning more into a bush truck. Cheers for your help, will come and see you when I have decided on turbo for an exhaust manifold
cheers abe

shit, bloody decent price, looks like it would flow better than the standard log style manifolds. is there much purpose in running an external wastegate on a diesel??
Found out the other day that the cheap stainless RB20/25 headers have the same pipe spacing as the td42. A mate of mine has changed flange on one for someone elses truck (he is a stainless welder)

Had my turbo done in blenheim by a guy off here, far better truck now would recomend him even my garage said very nice job. look for custom4wd its the wife her name is ajay.

spacing not the same,is a good 30+mm out,I have a pic some were well try and find it for you.like anything can be made to fit
skidtoy wrote:just smash a dirty big chev diesel v8 in there or turbo cummins dodge motors thats what i want to get the thing moving
Dude I wouldnt shove a dirty chev diesel near anything. TD42 would wipe its ass for brekky. A duramax however would be awweeeseommmmmeee..... except for the pricetag of course. Im not sure a cummins 6bt would even fit. They are cool motors but there are kinda designed for massive truck like things
