Body Lift

Hi just wondering if anyone knows the requirements on body lifts for 4x4. My prado has a 47mm lift kit fitted and for the first time today, failed a warrent on the grounds that i need to get any aftermarket lift kit certified...Ive had a look in VIRM and can't seem to find anything about body lifts. The lift was done when i got the truck about 3 years ago and i haven't had a problem getting WoF before, I even have a copy of the AA check that i got done and it makes a point of the lift but says it apears to be within WoF standards. The guy who inspected it wasn't too sure but he wanted me to go to the certifier and find out if in needs a cert or not, shouldn't vtnz have guide lines like every other WoF agent?? I also thought that if it was under 50mm (becuase under 50mm didn't affect the stearing) and all breaklines where fine, then a cert was not required...

body lift no matter what size requires certification,some wof shops let them through but if u had major accident and insurance found them in vechile they woiuld have instant way out

probably be under the new anti boy racer laws that say that, changing of the centre of gravity of a vehicle requires cert.

Thanks Pico42, thats quite interesting. Seems to be a grey zone from every angle!!

Whatever you do from a wof / cert point view is grey BUT notify your insurance company or you are not covered!
An insurance companies point of view is grey as well. If the mod is to wof standard (!) and the insurance company has been notified (non-disclosure voids your cover) then it is likely you will be OK.
BUT if the mod isn't to standard wof or no wof and can be contributed to the accident then it is likely the claim will be denied.
