Converting spotties to HID

Post by mudbugga »

Has anyone tried converting spotties to HID?

Wouldn't mind having a go with a pair of my Hella Rallye 4000's.
The kits seem reasonably priced on TM.

From what I can gather the greater the light rating the less output they produce, ie 5000k has better visability and whiter light than 12000k.
What I've read on the web is to look for between 4000k and 6000k kits. But then there is a real difference in quality of some ballasts between the different brands. You get what you pay for.

Would be interested to hear from others if they have tried doing a HID conversion.........

we did a HID conversion on some 4000 at work last week. had to drill a new hole in the back of the cover to allow fitment as the HID bulbs are quite long. also did a HID conversion on Jafas spotties, work fantastic!!!

Cool!
What kits did you use? What light temp - 4300k, 5000k or 6000k?
Did they come with grommets to seal the holes you had to drill?

I got 4 Hella 4000's on a roof rack I use for bunny shooting and am looking to have a play with a couple at least.

Came upon this......

That's what got me thinking. Looks very simple to do.

THE HID kits we sell have the grommet sealed to the wires, so was a easy fit :)

High intensity discharge lights are friggin amazing aye.

The lightforce kits might be good. But to me one wack from a good branch and they crack and break. But for mounting on your gun they are light and perfect for that application.
But that's just my experience with them. No other light works better for my rifle. But I wouldn't mount em on my truck unless you wanna keep replacing them.

The 2 Narva Extreme H.I.D pencil beams I have on the front of the 40 are made to handle the offroad tracks. I've face planted them a few times and it did nothing to em.
I have X6 IPF spots on the roof and all them put together still aren't as strong as the 2 H.I.D Narva's.

Only down side to em is. On the road, because they are so intense you can't see the lights of the on coming traffic before a bend in the road. So you have to be bloody quick to turn them off.

They are getting cheaper all the time and more self contained.
Next year they'll be even cheaper.
