high beam help on mazda astina

hi i just bought a mazda astina the other day and whenever i put high beams on the headlights turn off, i can still flash the high beams but if i try lock high beam on the headlights (high and low) turn off.
can anyone help me on this issue

Contacts in the h/l switch will be burnt or dirty.
Very common problem with them. Easy job to fix.
Pull out the switch and rub the contacts with 800 (or finer) grit wet-n-dry sandpaper.
