headlight buzzer

So the prado doesnt seem to have one. Has an anoying bong for keys in ignition if the door is opened though.

So how do I wire one up? jump a piezo from headlight fuse to doorlight fuse? Lights provide power and door switch closes circuit?

Any suggestions?

You will want an ABS Disable switch wiring in as well, as the ABS on mine gets confused on gravel and slippery muddy road......

if I see a sparky would they be able to do that for me? Not sure I want to do that sort of thing myself. Little stuff yes but not that special stuff.

I guess its just a switch with a relay (or something like that) in the power side of the brake system. I was just going to cheat and pull the fuse (when I find which one it is) for when off road.

There has been kits around for years ...

But a few years ago I found (in a electronics mag) a real simple fix

Take 1 12volt pezo or buzzer connect the neg - to the wire from the Oil pressure sender to the oil light and the Pos + to the wire on the back of the light switch that goes to the dip switch ( for modern vehicles with the switch all in one put it on the low beam or park wire )

might just run a peizo (really cheap) off the fues for the lights and then link it to the door switch. When lights are on it is energised only if the dioor is open which is all I need.

Just got to get round to it now. I thought with a key in ignition reminder that it would have a headlight reminder.

Got a cheap alarm thingee from Tricky dickies. had a look fo the fuses but they are under the bonnet and the alarm is in the cab so I will go for the headlight switch circuit and the door earth.

If useing a turbo timer,your already out of truck before power is killed and buzzer goes off. Guess I'll just have to remember to turn them off unless there is an option no one has brought up yet.

I'll have to check that. Didnt think of the turbo timer affecting the light circuit but I guess it probably has a relay controlled by the ignition etc. Will try later with timer off and flick the switch on.

Checked with the turbo timer off and lights on and no buzzer. theres that idea buggered and I was hoping it would work.

Well that was a mission. got a peizo for 6 bucks and spent the last two hours trying to wire it in.

Had the steering wheel cover off and trying to figure out wht does what.

The 'key in the ignition alarm' comes on when the vehicle is off and the door is opened (goes off when closed) but buggered if I can find the switched earth it was using. The headlight circuits are a pain as I cant find the park lights circuit either. In the end I wired it up to the headlights dip circuit and then ran a wire from there down to the door open switch (abbout 1.5M of wire). Dont like the buzzer but it works (but only on dip but thats better than what I had before).

For a job that should've taken about half an hour I made it more complicated by trying to be flash and using the ignition key switched earth. Should've just doen what I set out to do in the first place.

Found the fuse for that so I'll just remove it before use and replace it after.

no a half way decent handy man could do it in bugger all time. Now i've done it once it would take me bugger all now. Just a pain in the ass.

Bloody thing stopped working today. went for a few seconds and then nothing. It was a 6-12V version and I guess that with the engine going it was too much for it. I asked the geeks in the know if it would be suitable and they assured me it would. Looks like I waster a bit of time and $6 - Bastard now I have to get a real kit, jaycar here I come.

^ that sucks probably too much current for it to handle. You can always connect it to some other lower current output that switches with the lights ie dash lights. Shouldn't be too hard to find a cable to tie into since you've already got a cable up there for the light switch

On a similar note... Anyone know where the headlight buzzer hangs out in a 1990 terrano? Mines making a pretty feeble excuse of a buzz so time to replace it (if I can be arsed trying to find it. Ha)
