Thermal Thunder in Hanmer Next Weekend 31 October

Post by H2OLOVA »

Hey guys and girls just a quick heads up to let you all know this event is on again. Saturday 31 October. Starts 9.30am. Spectators welcome. $5 bucks a head or $15 a carload(i think :? ) Location will be well signposted its about 5 min drive from town centre. Anyway should be a good day with heaps to see. Approx 18 or so trucks confirmed at this stage but more expected. Feel free to PM me if anyone of you guys are keen to have a go. There are 4 different classes so something for everyone. This is the final round of the mainland winch series for 2009. Watch out for a certain Red Cruiser........bound to end up on its side at least

getting better. Should have the worst of it back together tomorrow night. Had to cut the diff housing to get the axle out
I can't believe there are no photos of it. My camera crapped out on the friday nite so i haven't even got one for my album. I'm sure someone here has one, cause it felt like everyone that was up there came over for a look

I have to start by saying that up until about 2 weeks ago i wasn't going to compete in this event. My argument was that once the clock started the red mist would come down and i'd end up breaking my truck  But after much hassling from a certain pommy bastard we decided to give it a go. Spent last week building an exo (cause my truck gets tired and likes to lie down), putting new tyres on, got the rims altered and had the truck as ready as she gets.

Was all good on the night stages, had someone complain that my lights were to bright  but went well. Had us well warmed up for the action to come the next day.
Sat started well, but then on stage 9 I was getting a bit too keen, came over the top of a hill that had about a 6 metre slope with a flat at the bottom  I'm not exactly sure how much of the slope we hit but we hit the flat real hard  Tore the top hub bolts off, bent the L/H springs (Rik ate all the pies), bent the diff housing (hence the need to cut it to get the axle out), buggered the steering dampener and bent the R/H rim.
We needed to get the truck off the course so I started pulling the L/H wheel off while Rik went and got another truck to tow us out of the way. I had all but two of the wheel nuts off when Rik got back with a truck to tow us down. In the excitement I jumped into the truck and away we went. And before you know it i've buggered the centre of another "new rim"
But we got to the bottom, I was kindly loaned a trailer by Quadracer, the only downside was that Rik and I had to drive Bobs Suzuki back to town. Now I know why i own a Cruiser  Anyway had a great time. The truck repairs are underway, thankfully had most of the parts 'in stock', Will have to build the truck stronger for next time
