Cheers dude!

Silvia wheel WAS air bag. Easy and safe enough to remove air bag units if you are careful. You have a few crazy screws to undo and some aluminum rivets to drill out before it can be pulled to bits.

Thankfully with the air bag unit removed it still clips together with working horn etc. Its just hollow.

Also the spline is the same but the horn ring assembly is totally different. I had to cut the ring out of the back of my  GQ wheels rear (lol) and glue it to the rear of the silvia wheel. Works and looks great!

-----------

this is mk1 version of the plenum.

Image Its changed a few times since this after studying 2jz and rb26 plenums. aluminum is being cnc plasma cut so should slot together nicely after its been folded.

--------------

thanks for the info about the creepys and the crowning. main reason for going wider is that i need the extra clearance between chassis and tire for when turning. they crown pretty bad with the 8's! im sure the 10's will be better.
I've got a set of 10's arriving next week :-)

Thanks man - there is one on trademe at the moment but they want about $300 - Do you know of any other wheels that bolt straight on? Darinz mentioned a terrano D21.

Had some auto issues as per nissan section.

Just bought a manual. Cheaper overall than making this auto cool and plus it opens up PTO winches as an option 8)

Have got
-cross member
-pedle
-power assist gear
-bell housing
-clutch
-Gearbox

Need a TD42 flywheel. Is there anything else someone can think of to make the manual conversion work? Does anyone have a flywheel for sale?

Installed the passenger side STI seat tonight. Fark its beautiful  and so comfortable.

Will not be near the truck tomorrow night or this weekend. Really want to get some work done. NOT FAIR.

dont forget that you need flywheel bolts as flywheel bolts are longer than flexplate bolts. are manual and auto driveshafts the same length??

Thanks for that 8), I'd not even thought of it! I'll get new ones.

I think drive shafts are the same length- but I've gotta sort that out later anyway as changing wheelbase.

They will fit fine. View the DIY in the nissan section as well as the GQ seat upgrade thread for more info 8)

STI seats have better support from what im told- but the WRX seats there in the auction will be awesome.

I thought all the wrx seats were the same however theres something different about the ones out of the coupes. Maybe they are the more supportive ones or something.

Coupe seats will have a lever to make them tilt forwards and slide so that the rear seat occupants can get in and out- like our GQ passenger seat has.

I've been in a few WRX's and I do not remember their seats being as buckety as these.

Things have taken a slightly different route over the past few days that's for sure.

Have got a brand new td06 20g turbo with 8cm exhaust housing on the way. The turbo was built by Steve Murch and I must say that he is one of the nicest most informative blokes I've ever had the pleasure of chatting to. Highly recommend getting into contact with him If you need a turbo for your rig- He's done a few safari's too and it sounds like he knows whats what.

I have taken a huge step really over the past two days. I'm not gonna make it completely public just yet.. its pretty outrageous tbh  . The up side is that It is going to absolutely transform the safari and rectify quite a few of its serious flaws.

Which means there are going to be quite a few parts up for sale in jan next year (and a few before then) Please keep these in mind and flick me a PM if you'd like to put dibs on anything. If no decent offers pop up I'll be going to TM for $1 reserve.

-Aluminum front winch bumper- shown in the pics a few pages back. Fits warn low mount winch. Very sturdy - it has been extensively reinforced with steel plate so the aluminum takes none of the load from winching/snatching off the hooks etc.- DIBS'd

-SWB solid rear side windows. Tinted. Removes your rusty frames and two piece factory glass panes.

-STI WRX seats from the pics up there- with rails to fit GQ safari 8)

-Electronic manual shift setup to suit auto GQ safari/patrol. LWB or SWB. Each wire is labeled for easy installation. Comes with TQ converter lockup switch. Shifts very nice compared to stock.

-All other GQ body and interior parts.

-Sunroof DIBS'd

-Sony Stealth black face head unit M670 (i think- will check). CD/radio. Works great.
Image

-warn M8000 electric winch. Recently rebuilt. etc.

you should use the sunroof's glass to make a FG mold and then pull from that a thick fibreglass pannel that you can install the old sunroof rubbers/clips etc onto.

So you can still open the top if required.

You know the sunroof unclips and comes out aye?

Alright. So I've ended up with a 12,000lb (i think...maybe 15,000lb) hydraulic winch. Plan is to get a PTO output section and shaft with engagement lever so I can send drive backwards to a dedicated pump. hopefully I can then get some decent speed out of the thing.

Also- I've told shitloads of people so i may as well be out with it.

Yes, I'm fitting a hilux ute cab to my safari. The one Vvega had for sale. Hope to have it fitted over the next two months if everything goes to plan 8)

This has COMPLETELY changed the projects attitude and direction.
The lux cab gives me SO much more.

Pro's
-FAR less weight (ever compared a GQ bonnet to a lux bonnet?)
-Greater availability of really sweet parts (seen the front guards on jafa's truck  )

-They are far better looking than the GQ ever could be (i originally wanted a hilux)

-The hiluxes bad parts are erased in one foul swoop. I'm able to do away with the hilux's baby engine, flimsy chassis (lol, im just being cheeky), weak box, diffs AND I lose the leaf springs from the chassis.

-The safari's bad parts are also erased instantly. NO MORE RUST. NO MORE whale jokes.

-I am going to put a NISSAN badge on the front of the lux grille (must get me a nice shinny one) just to confuse everyone.

-Its got no rust in this body. My GQ was full of it. Water leaked inside. It was a mess.

-Because i can get guards like Jafa's im open to other options that really were not possible before- I no longer need to lift the truck 4" like i did before. There is also going to be more space for the inside of my tyre to cram itself up inside the front guard before it rubs.

-I dont have to change my GQ's fucked door hinges.

So... As well as everything else thats being done.. this is a brief list of what i'd like to happen in the relatively near future.

-Glue on the hilux cab. Throw out the Nissan cab.

-Install manual box and change rear mainseal while the body is off.

-Fit the GQ trans tunnel into the hilux cab. then I'll have to find some seats small enough to fit in the remaining gaps on each side

-Relocate the radiator to the rear

-Fit some FG front guards (like jafa's- as i keep saying) from steve at 4wd fibreglass in hamilton.

-modify my drop boxes so that they do not push the axle so far forwards. will go just +15mm rather than +50mm as the boxes are designed. This removes the need to extensively modify/move the spring perches/shock towers and panhard rod mount.

Sort out rear arms once and for all- 5link or 4link etc.

-Move all strut/spring perches upwards so that the trucks only recieved a 2"ish spring lift just with more up movement.

-Purchase a superflex arm from superior engineering.

-fold up an aluminum or plastic dash board.

why don"t you just buy a Hilux or Cruiser. :?

A whale will always be a whale , even if you try and disguise it as a Toyota . And as to putting a Nissan badge on a Toyota cab , that is just wrong imho.
