Surf parts costs

Post by nzshred »

Hey guys, I owned an 'offroad' surf awhile ago, bought it from a mechanic who had done everything himself, and obviously a shit job as it just started falling to bits. I should have kept it and fixed it up as the actual engine and body was great condition, but I was in debt and needed the money from it!

But now I am looking at getting a new one and am interested in costs. I am thinking of buying a stock surf and here's what I want to do

1. 2" spring lift (What are the implications of doing this alone? as my last surf's cv boots ripped because the guy had cranked the suspension too high?)
2. Good offroad tyres
3. Diff lock in the rear (what year do they come stock with diff lock?)

Can someone give me rough costs of what each thing will cost. If anyone can give me some info on aprox how much it would cost to put the springs and diff in and where other than trademe I can pick parts up from that's be great.
Cheers.

hey mate, welcome board, that really is a open question ae

ok,2" lift, rear springs from 50 a set to 200 a spring depending on where you go and more if you dont put them in,front if ifs is just wind them up or replace with heavy duty then wind up(but not to far,too far is was causes the cracked boots, there are other mods to to bing angles back down)

i payed 1600 for a full old man emu kit couple years back, best bit of money i spent i reckon, dramatically changed both on and offfroad handling

diff locks from 500-what 2k for air operated so depending on what you want plus more to fit

and as for good tyres?what do you consider good, for some people its second hand full set off trade me for 500,for others its 500+ per tyre plus rim and fitting

you need to narrow ya scope a bit, wheres it gona go and what you wana do in it plus whats ya round about budget figure

then come back for opinions

Cheers for the response, I am in wellington at the moment, but will be heading south to either Nelson or Alexandra in awhile. And then probably West coast after feb.

I had Dueler MT's on my last surf and loved them. Would like to get them again. Need a tyre that will handle the mud pretty decently as muddy places are the usual for where I go offroading, but one that won't break the budget. When I looked up reviews for the dueler MT it said it was a good mud tyre but also good on the road and pretty standard offroad tyre in other terrain and wasn't too expensive compared to other MT's.

My budget for a truck I am thinking 2-3g and then I have no idea how much this stuff usually costs, but would like to keep it on the mid to low end cost. Maybe say 1.5-2g to do all this up if that's possible?
If I do this all in wellington (unlikely) I have a mate who works at a 4wd shop that may be able to help install it cheap, but

What should be done first? the diff or a good set of tyres? (provided the tyres that come aren't flat) Obviously the lift kit will be the least important thing for making it offroad worthy?

need to decide what size tyre you want to run then decide if a lift is needed to fit the tyres, sort tyres/lift then look at rear locker

mmm, I am not too knowledgeable about tyre sizes and rims. What is the biggest size I can get without having to raise it? IS there any point putting a lift kit in with tyres that size?

When I look up the duelers they come in 30-33. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if you can guess the size by a picture but here's the ones on my old surf:
