It has to be said, that Janet is one of the most awesome video camera operators I have ever seen.
Was much of it edited, or is that pretty much how it was filmed

Hi Skid
That was exactly as it was filmed.
I cut out 2 video clips. One was when she forgot to turn the camera off and it was pointing at the ground.
The other one could be classed as obscene and removed for Wayne dignity.

Re: Waitawheta "Mudzilla's favorite track"
forgot to give my thanks for the dvd, great vid, but it skips something cronic towards the end (i think its near the end) starts before the part where Jafa is stuck at the bottom of the hill and is moving truck back and forth about 2 dozen times and finally gets back enough to gun up the hil.... how far from the end is that???? it doesnt skip, it just frezzes then will move a frame or 2 every minute....

Might be a problem with your player or some much on the disc.
That part was pretty funny, 40" tahs, lockers, flexy suspension and he gets stuck on flat ground

This is Clive's trip report for the Hawkes Bay club mag of their Waitawheta trip on labour weekend
WAITAWHETA TRIP REPORT By Clive
Labour Weekend 09
This was a trip run by Freddy.
Trucks attended were Freddy and family – Safari
Jock and Sean – Landcruiser
Jeep and Clive – Prado
We headed to Waihi on the Friday all towing trucks. Good trip – uneventful.
We stayed at a motor camp in Waihi township. I believe it was a different one to previous years as Freddy found the new one to be a lot cheaper, better facilities and a good all round set up.
It was tents for Freddy and co, and Sean and Jock. Jeep and I being a bit soft used our motorhome or maybe just because we could.
We started into the fearsome Waitawheta track at about 8 am on Saturday morning. The next 24 hours was a nonstop series of deep bogholes, ruts, mud up to your knees, rocks and boulders and getting well acquainted with winch ropes, pully blocks and pretty much every possible bit of recovery gear available. Many areas of the track were only possible with one winch after another for hundreds of metres. Jock and Sean with 37 inch tyres, two diff locks and a PTO winch lead the way and pretty much did the whole track unaided by the other 2 trucks. But they were slowed down by having to come back to help us.
Freddy’s Safari had a few issues mostly caused by it being too fat (wide) and getting wedged in the ruts leading to a breakage of the panhard rod on the back. It was only a matter of time really considering the thickness of the pipe and the abuse from the vehicle width. (Hard truck safari owners take note).
So there we are with a severely broken truck. We considered strapping the diff from both sides to limit movement, which would have been far from ideal, when Jeep’s brain spun into overdrive and came up with the idea of using the shaft from his high lift jack with multiple adjustment holes to replace the panhard rod. A bit of effort it worked a treat with no real difference to the trucks driveability.
By now it was becoming obvious that Jeep’s clutch was having problems with mud etc in the bellhousing, making it very hard for the clutch to disengage. Better than not engaging which would have meant we could not move at all. We couldn’t do anything about that so had to make do without a clutch.
At some stage Woodchip was driving dads safari when he got stuck in the middle of a bog hole. Upon being instructed to back up and have another go, he backed up fast so as not to get stuck in the deep part of the hole. Unfortunately so fast, it leapt right up out the hole down the track and into the bullbar of jeeps truck. He had a good excuse though, Its called “ Only being 12“. Freddy was the only one not laughing as he now needed a new back door
There was a long steep uphill section with ruts so deep it was impossible to move without winching, - ruts so deep you could hardly get out of the window to help. So I was quite happy to be driving Jeep’s truck at this point, while Jeep worked on his fitness doing the rope. Freddy’s electric winch was by now starting to show its battery / alternator weakness so ended up hooked to the back of Jeep’s truck with the PTO pulling 2 trucks on a double line pull for hundreds of metres. The PTO winch was really impressing me at this stage. Being in the truck working the levers I could really feel the load and pressure going on the rope – amazing.
It was Jock’s turn to have some issues. Over-heating from his thermostatically controlled fan slipping. So they pulled it apart, wedged a couple of sticks in the mechanicals, put it back together and all good.
It had gotten dark and we were only half way through. Half way through the night Jock had had enough apparently and disappeared ahead, had dinner and a break. Probably just as well. We all wanted to live through the experience after all.
Freddy was having fuel issues so we were having to pull him to more level spots so fuel would come through. The chainsaw gas had already gone in the tank. Bit tricky pulling someone forward when you’re behind them.
Kristy and kids were getting a bit testy around midnight and fair enough too – not the best family trip. I was loving it, but had had enough by about 4 am. I think Jeep was about on a par with me.
Somewhere around 3 am Freddy had ended up sitting on a stump which bashed his automatic linkages up, wedging it in reverse. We couldn’t pull him off it and the high lift jack was already under his truck so we couldn’t jack The truck of the stump either. And Jock and Sean were no where to be seen. Final straw was when it totally ran out of gas. It was time to get Kristy and the youngest out of there.
A radio call to Jock to go get gas went out over the radio. But we didn’t really know if he heard it so Jeep and I threw most of the gear out of the back, wedged Kristy and Sawdust in the back and carried on to leave Freddy and Woodchip to have a sleep. They say Freddy fair loses the plot sometimes but he did really well that night to keep it together, all things considered. It bugged me leaving them there. That, “ we go in together – we leave together” thing.
Another hour or so of winching and driving we were out just as day break arrived. Jock and Sean were just coming back with fuel. They had heard the message.
Jeep, Kristy, Sawdust and I went back to camp while Jock and Sean went to rescue Freddy.
Jeep decided we should help getting Freddy out but with a broken clutch there wasn’t much point in taking the chance of that giving up completely in the bush as it was now out. So Jeep took Freddy’s VX back to see if he could help with labour. I decided they would be fine without us so went to bed. Aahhh sleep!!!! After all there were 2 trucks and 4 people in there to do the job. Apparently as Jeep started to walk back in they came out. It was about 8 am so that’s about 24 hours to do Waitawheta.
Everyone slept through most of that day and we went to the RSA for dinner. With only one truck still capable of it we gave Thompson’s track a miss. I’m a bit bummed about that – next time. Waitawheta certainly lived up to its reputation. I’m keen to go back with my own truck, if only the useless bugger building it would get it finished.
For those of you who were there may notice the sequence of events might be a bit out of order but its mostly all there.
Awesome trip.
