Sealed alternater for a 70 series

On the current model 70 series with the 4.5 V8 diesel the alternater is mounted low just above the front diff the moter is shoehorned in and I can't see anywhere else to move it to
Where it is it is underwater every time you do a rivercrossing which happens to be every time I go out my drive so at 30,000 k stuffed has anyone got any ideas? can you get sealed alternaters that would stand up to that kind of treatment better

About the only sealed alternators around where fitted to some Komatsu diggers etc. They are very small output, are 24volt and would never fit in your truck.

Theres not really much you can do to seal yours up either

Yes think you are right I can't find anything suitable and I can't see anywhere to move alternator to so far only solution seems to be don't go through water more than ankle deep. This is soposed to be Toyota's tough go anywhere truck. 18 months old and 30,000 KM the dif locker replaced rear shocks replaced and now alternator f_ _ _ed and I only use it to go into town once a week ( the drive is a sometimes not so dry river bed)

oh to have a drive into town involve river crossings-aye skid!!

the downside to all electrics really they can be new/rebuilt/etc and a couple bogs/holes/rivers and they are on the way out... Maybe run a switch and soleniod to turn the alternator off whilest in deeper water??

dirty water would be the killer. maybe a good clean with fresh water after river work would prolong its life.

What exactly went wrong with the alternator? They are a pretty simple device.

All the problems ive had with mine have involved mud , worn bushes and stuffed bearings, caused by dirty water and mud. mud causing heat build up and melting of components . regular cleaning has pretty much stopped the dramas i was having.

What about running alow pressure line into the housing to presurise it and keep the majority of the water etc out?
