Auto hubs or manual?

Post by LIFTED »

Got stuck, tryed to jump from first to reverse a few times to try and get the Patrol y60 moving , it sometimes made a loud bang from the front diff i think, acted as if it was jumping in and out of being locked.Do the auto hubs do this under load as i noticed the right front wheel not spinning often? Isit beter to use manual diff locks for this as id rather buy some if it helps alot?

are they the AUTO - LOCKED hubs ? If so, its better to have them in the LOCKED position whenever offroad.

If they are the AUTO only hubs- i suggest you swap thme with some manual ones. Nissans FREE-LOCKED hubs are the best by far but they are also hard to find and expensive. Second seems to be the nissan AUTO-LOCKED hubs which are not as strong but still pretty good. You can also convert those to FREE-LOCKED hubs by prying out the automatic locking assembly inside (its pretty easy)

Any hub in auto modewill unlock itself as you switch from forward to reverse and vice a versa. Also the unlock as you come over a rise and head down hill and back off the throttle. they don't re lock until a little load comes on them.
Can you post a pic flyingbrick on the part you take out of the AUTO/LOCKED ones. I am running one of these on the right side as stronger then aftermarket but a superwinch on the left as I have a auto lokka. If I run two nissan AUTO/LOCKED hubs, the lokka is always in, makes steering a real bitch.

Either I will take photos of the conversion that I did to mine tonight or will find the thread on patrol4x4.com that shows how it is done
