Good video but you knew that was going to happen.

While it is a good test, I feel it should be done by a 3rd party rather then someone who will show bias - not saying that ARB are of course.

What is the going rate for an ARB locker from box to being driven on?

I agree this like the chinese test was done by them in their shop and while I dont dispute their findings on this one locker and axle set, if they did a run of 10 randomly selected lockers and axles from both lineups (and the chinese one too) and averaged the results it would be more believable. This just looks like an exercise in bagging the competition.

How many runs did they make with ARB lockers before they got one better than the cheaper one?
How many axles fail at the same point?
How many runs with the cheaper locker were done before they got one that was bad?

Too many questions when this is done in house. ARB when you do this stuff get someone else to independantly do the testing and do it over a larger sample of stock (one unit isnt indicative of a lot). Or at least get them to indepandently verify the results and may be thse tests will then mean something other than a bit of product bagging.

Oh yeah and lower the price so the cheapies dont stand a chance

ARBs are not without problems.

I have now broken 3 cross shafts and my mate in his rangie snapped the carrier off at the drive side bearing.

I have just replaced my ARB with a new one and would not use any thing else.

yup, one test is not a definite or a reasonable statistical sample, it is nice to note that even though the axle is "still useable" it is stuffed, has been taken past yeild point of the steel, 6200 lbs torque vs 6500 lbs torque is not a huge difference, from a earlier test arb did a while ago, the chiense took note and improved the steel in the side gears, last time the side gears let go,

i have seen arb shit themselves and leave axles untouched.


to give a idea of the force we can create in axles, mitchs new truck can give, i think the numbers were right and mitch can confirm, about 4000 nm torque at the wheel, very low gearing from a bloody ls1, 4000nm torque = 2950 ft/lbs well clear of the 6200 or less than 50% of the force needed to break the locker. ignoring impact loadings of course.

Just put two of the new style ARB,s in my old mans patrol,

Rear one went in mint 0.05mm runout in the crown wheel - sweet

But the front one - Not quite so good.

Bearings on assembled in the carrier and holy s**t 0.6mm of run out.
Spent 5-6hrs pulling every thing apart and checked everything even tried different carrier bearings to no avail, checked the brand new crown wheel for runout - still nothing.

Packaged back up , sent back,

The dealer sent us a new one which was fitted and guess what....

0.05mm of runout Mint

Thumbs up to the dealer for his quick responce

And a big thumbs down to ARBs quality control
