80 series oil pressure ??

I'm curious to know what oil pressure other 80 series owners are running

mine is a 12 valve and as you can see from the pic, its low

this was in 4th gear at 1600rpm................

Mine does that, from my investigations on the net it's due to a combination of the sender on the block or the guage in the dash.

you did your BE bearings when rebuilding aye?

like Andrew says, i fitted a VDo as well as the factory unit and the VDO reads much higher i also fitted a VDO temp gauge and it goes from 80 to 95 but the factory temp gauge stays put... for the extra couple of hundy on top of my rebuild its great piece of mind to accurately monitor the engine

My old LJ71 did the same thing just after an oil change, the filter was changed again (in case it was a dud) and the guage was checked. it came right a bit afterwards.....

Its not a problem with the wiring or something?, have you looked at the fuses after it was sunk? maybe its a bit of corrusion on the fuses etc?

Fark, I thought everyone knew that the first thing you do when you get a Toyota of any sort is put in a mechnical temperature gauge and a mechanical oil pressue gauge.

The factory electrpnic oil pressure gauges don't last long, the sender units clog up with oil sludge and stop reading correctly.

Go to repco and buy a $12 mechanical gauge and plumb that in. Half an hour job, and then you know exactly whats goin on

Toyota factory temp gauges have a factory flat spot built in.
Designed to reduce service calls about fluctuating temp gauges.
When they go into the red, its sudden and its to late!the damage is all ready done generally.

even though you are all saying to go buy mechanical oil pressure gauge

can they be trusted ??

the ol 40 had these and the water temp one was reading wrong, it would always read 30 degrees higher than the highest digital temp we could get off the motor

or maybe we can't trust the flash digital thermometer

I run both the factory gauges and aftermarket ones.
and modded the Toyota Temp gauge to remove the flat spot.

Two sets of gauge has to be better than one

Mate of mine spent 10 grand rebuilding his engine. apparently the oil gauge still sits in the same place too. He not impressed. guess I should tell him to do the gauge.

I personally like the electric gauges as long as they are a good brand.
I use the VDO ones that are used on ships and planes.

They are very sensitive and the advantage of electric for 4 wheel driving is an oil pipe can't break on the track with a loss of pressure that can happen with a mechanical one.

This is only my preference from using both.

sounds like good advice Richard, but as I already have a electrical gauge, I think I will go get a mechanical one to accompany it and see if it reads any differently for me
