Whats the biggest tyres I can fit on a jimny
Hi looking for some advise on what is the max tyre I can fit on a stock standard 1999 Jimny that has to do a river crossing on the school run every morning looking for max height rather than width
Re: Whats the biggest tyres I can fit on a jimny
Ok, tyre size on a jimny is a bit of a problem because the flares are so big and the wheel arch isnt all that big?
At work i have seen a jimny with 215,75,15 mud tyres on it but they were a tight fit, you would be better to fit a snorkel than go to bigger tyres, because these things need all the help they can get power wise

Depends how hard you want to go offroad and how deep the ruts are where you wanna drive...
Jimny's are a bit high geared for really serious offroad work and if you go bigger in the tyres they run out of puff. So, I agree with lexulance - 215 75 is about as big as you can go, without getting into a lot of cost lifting/ cutting/ gearing down... 215's will struggle for ground clearance and you will get diffed or bellied any time the ruts get deep.
That all said - if you just want to throw some mud tyres on it to get out there and have fun without going too hard, then go for it with the 215 75's

Thanks for the advise snorkel is on order but Safari seems to be the only one making one for the Jimny and their factory burnt down delivery could be months. this wagon is the Miss's one to take kids to school each morning not for serious offroading she floats it across the river as it is before snorkel is fitted with river running low the rest of the track can be handled with A/T tires but mud tires will be needed in winter. higher mud tires I am hoping will give it a bit more traction when it is half floating.

Have you considered building a bridge?

Sold a new Jimny recently to a local cocky who was prepared to do a bit of modification, and in the end he stuck with the 215/75/15 Kumho KL71s because they didn't suck too much of his limited power, and were the largest that didn't need modification to the truck.

I put 215,75,15 on mine and gave it a body lift to stop them touching on the bumpy stuff. Giving a jimny a body lift is a very easy job, it took me about two hours to get it finished. the xtra hight is good for those river crossings too. the only problem i had is it use to float... all the bigger 4x4 would go through fine and i would be going sideways.

Re: Whats the biggest tyres I can fit on a jimny
Sorry for dragging up a thread that is old but it is quite relevant to what i have been pondering for a while in regard to tyre size on Jimny's.
I have an 04 Jimny and the stock size is 205/70R15. I am currently running 195/80R15 which are slightly larger. I would like to change to 215/75R15 as suggested here and in other forums because this is the largest realistic size without major modification ie lift or gearbox mods. But using a tyre calculator the tyre will be 5.3% larger. Am i going to need a cert for this? I thought the limit was 5%.
Am i correct or do i have my wires crossed somewhere?

Yea it is 5%, You may get away with the 5.3% though, thats up to you. That size tyre should go well on the Jimny anyway.
