Tonight it's not sounding at all.

Gave it a steam clean after Rick slowed down the speed of the cooling fan (hydraulic fluid about, I said I'd clean it up) . Now it's dead a doe doe. Funny thing is. The tacho has flicked right round to 8000rpm and is locked there. Fark noz wot that's about.
I've left my multimeter at Adams so I can't check the power feed. All the fuses look good. So it's, "WTF!"

One issue I've had every since this re-power was the electrics. Right from the start it's been trouble. It just hasn't stopped.
The loom that was used for the LS1 was agricultural. And I'll never forget the crowd that did the original install cut corners and tried to do the electrical work themselves.
I couldn't believe that. I don't know if anyone would remember (fark I do). But they didn't even bolt down the ECU or fuse box down in the glovebox (where I asked it to go). So when I turn round a corner the thing died. Also, I could of lost the whole truck to fire as the loom was millimeters away from the exhaust headers.        I should of taken them to court coz that cost me big bucks to get fixed by a Auto sparky. He did the best he could do with what he was given.

I feel like ripping the motor out and starting the electrical work again. Extreme i know. But I've had enough of this shit.
Just imagine if I did take it off road more than the half a dozen times than it already has. People would of got sick of me breaking down all the time.

The boys that went on the last Albundy birthday trip.
Remember my truck breaking down? What was it for?

You guessed it. Surprise surprise!
Electrical issues. I lost power to the fuel pump.

Rant over.
Sorry about that...

A while back, to calm down I'd just have a puff. But I'm NOT gunna HAVE ONE!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
So I thought i thought instead, I'd just do a big bleat here.

If anyone in Chch see my 40 being towed by a black maloo ute you'll know what gives. :D

Me truck's up n running again, thanks to Rick.
Found out that the starter motors solenoid was rooted. One of the terminals had broken off. Opened up the started motor and the brushes were just about worn right out.
So replaced the whole thing. $250 for a new one plus Ricks labour and it's sorted.

Good to see Pete today, called in on his way to the Airport after spending the weekend with the kids.

Driving a little 4 cyl toyota rental instead of the FJ40 V8. told me a had only used quarter of a tank of petrol so miles cheaper than the 40.
I have to say it didn't sound as nice as the 40

We agreed that a supercharger is the way to go. He has one in the offroader running 10 lbs of boost.

Cheers Richard

I disagree

maybe if he spent the time driving it off road instead of forever improving it, then he may get to see what he does and doesn't need.

most folks would kill just to have a dirty ol tree fiddy in a 40, let alone and injected 300kw one.

drive it Pete, iron out the leckie gremlins and start putting some off road kms on the clock

Good points skid.

After watching Richards offroad vids and him going through pros n cons of trucks n tracks while watching, made me feel guilty owning a truck that hardly gets dirty.
I'm not making excuses but. (you'll think so) My truck was brought n built up to tow not to go off road.
When I get people saying what I should be doing with it is cool, I agree, I've never disagreed.
If I'm honest, I should just take the plunge and get out n get down n dirty with it.

I was thinking about supercharging it at one stage. But then the cost was just way up there. And Rach didn't think it was a good idea. So i was thinking of a nos kit coz it's cheap to setup.

But I'm shelving those ideas. I've been putting my money in bricks and mortar instead.

Come on Pete's truck does what he wants and needs it to do, when he gets the chance to go offroad he does but it is his 40 and if all he needs it to do is go out to knock bunnies over, tow the boat and have some fun in what is wrong with that?

Remember Pete when you throw the supercharger at it you will need to throw coils and safari axles under it and poss go to the auto, remember I have seen you drive  on and offroad

Remember this is his daily driver, the Commodore is his toy.

pete, dont super charge the 40, do that to the commie and put a lumpy cam in the 40 to make it sound old school, plus with the right one get more torque and a few more kw's.

What do you mean by "pwn" wopass? (excuse my ignorance)

You're talking sense there Gary. Supercharging the Clubby pos n not the 40. But i think the next thing to do on the clubby is a paint job. Same colour. Just new front bumper, side skirts to bring it back to mint condition. She's going ok, just needs to look the part coz it's looking like the 40, rough. (opps, back to the thread)

There's a little bit of piston slap in the LS1. Compression is still ok. But when i get new pistons n rings next year i think I'll go for a mild cam. Not a stage three (as I have in the Clubby as that's a pain to drive everyday) but just a small one to give it a little more go down low.

be careful with paint jobs, i got my commie done this year after smashing the front bumper into a fox terrier at 70km/h and a week later some clown came round my place, decided to play with my doggy, 18month old German Shepard, threw his squeaky ball onto my bonnet by accident which was then quickly followed by my dog. now back to where i was with scratches and chips hahahaha!!!

the winch set up on the bro's new bar looks great and the inner core part of the barlooks mint, but as new and shiney as it is, the double bar across the bottom looks odd.. perhaps from chassis rails goin up to meet the top bar would have been better for approach angles etc?

then again, whats it used for? towing and road stuffs? then thats more than sufficient..

not quite my cup of tea, but each to there own and its still a tidy bit of bar work.

I agree with you n skid nibs. I think he would of been better to buy an off the shelf ARB bar. Yep, it's for road work mainly. But it's not like my bro to be like everyone else. And that's cool. He likes it. :D
