I sure by my reaconing you wont find any difference in wheel base between single, double or what ever from about 1984 -on. :?

When looking at a hilux of that era you'll notice a two piece driveshaft and that is the one chassis does all chassis. If you look under a hilux and see a one piece driveshaft then you're probably looking at an earlier Hilux or a solid axle surf.

And thats probably the reason the sa Surfs go so well stock - they are actually 235mm shorter in the w/base than a '84- Hilux

105" surf
114" Hilux

some of the import hiluxes are a swb variety, same wheelbase as a surf. a good one to get as they have air con and lsd standard. some even have a turbo .

Actually yes, there are 2 wheelbases... but

Single cabs come in a long and short wheelbase model
Double cabs are always long wheelbase
Xtra Cabs are always short wheel base

The easy way to tell the difference is the double-section driveshaft that the long wheelbase ones have.

Surfs are always short wheelbase too, regardless of number of doors.

Get one, any one... don't get a cruiser :)

Yeah Man get the 40. :)
You'll also need some grade 5 earmuffs,(just so you can hear for the rest of your life), 6 months gym memebership prior to purchase (just to get the forearms ready for the steering and the legs ready for the brakes and clutch), Oh and don't forget the fact you'll need to start sleeping (or at least get on really well) 8) with a physiotherapist ( for whats left of your spine after driving in 1 for anything more than 30 minutes at a time)

Failing that go the Surf, or later model cruiser, and before the rest of you cruiser lovers give me lots of greive, I have 2 c ruisers ( an old 60 and a 90) as well as the surf :D
