Heat Resistant Leads

Hi

On the weekend had problems with truck misfiring.

Found problem is the exhaust heat is cracking the rubber covers on the spark plug leads and then from there shorting everything out.

On one side of the engine there is bugger all room between the end of the spark plugs and the exhaust.

Anyone got any good ideas on what type of covers we can put on the end of the leads that will be a bit more heat resistant??

yeh,this ive heard of before,there are socks you can buy that just slide over but i cant for the life of me remember where from,im thinking sta parts in auckland or a decent performance shop should have something or could get them in for you

Do miss the old hilux days, used to be able to hammer it and it would always drive home. Have to admit didn't hammer it as much as the 4wd now, but at least it would have made it up takapari and back

Cheers, look like might do the trick. Roughly only a finger width between the end of the spark plug and the exhaust so imagine on a long run things are going to get a bit hot.

yip,id think these would do the trick,ive seen them in the shop and look the part,just never had any experience with them myself sorry,but best of luck whateva way you go,if they do do the trick tho mayb throw up a product review so we all know for next time

Any thoughts on using exhaust heat wrap??

Have heard a few comments that not a good idea on a 4wd due to mud and water etc. Figure would only need to wrap the bit where the lead is almost hitting??

to be honest mate id have no idea and couldnt comment cos id be talking out my arse ,but feel free to try it if your willing to have to replace all ya leads etc if it went wrong

They look just like the heat proofing we put over electrical cables in ovens.
