Novel ways to clean under your truck

Garage talk. Anything from mounting a winch to water proofing the electrics.

Novel ways to clean under your truck

Post by petefj40 »

I've been thinking of easy ways to clean the underside of a truck. (in my case I'd have to get it dirty first  )

Saw this pic in a 4X4 Action mag. I guess this would be one way.
Image

A hoist of course would be the best way but I was thinking of something cheap n easy.
I thought it would be cool to use a pulley system and the winch on your truck to hoist the front up using the 2 tow hooks on the front bull bar.

Anyone else had any ideas?

Cheers.

i usually just take it swimming and let the rest fall off on the road but with the new attitude to driving in rivers that may not be so pc so maybe i need to change my methods

We used to use a raided Karcher water blaster on the river bed. The water blaster part of these is just a high pressure pump, so when the electric motor shit itself, a mate of mine put a pulley on the front of the pump and made a lightweight frame for it to sit in the "V" on his defender v8. Slip a fan belt on and tension it up with a bungy cord, stick the water pickup in the river and wallah, a v8 water blaster (knew an LR would be handy for something :P )
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Err .... with the above idea you wouldn't be relying on the winch system when you are under the truck would you ....

Some very tall and stable axle stands would be needed before working under or anywhere near the truck.

I thought if you've already got a winch and some pulleys. All you'd need would be a frame to winch it up to? I thought that would be easier than making up those ramps?

Then after reading rangi n rok's comments. It's best to leave the mud close to where it came from instead of taking it home with you.
But then in my case, it'd be leaving it at my brothers place.

When my front yard used to grass I would put the sprinkler on under the truck and leave it a few hours, worked a treat. Now I just go to the truck wash kitted out in all my wet weather gear and safety goggles for the old eyes.

That was his first time out lol. Have to learn through experience. Those ramps in the first pic do the same job as those big car display ramps carsharks use in their yards.

I saw that picture too & it got me thinking, their are a couple of empty caryards in Albany with display ramps still in them, I thought a do it the right way & offered to buy them, @ a reasonable price of course, couldn't get a straight answer, once a car dealer, always a car dealer!

Bit off the topic but get a laugh from this.Since ive been managing a garage in Avondale, some local user's have been washing cars behind my workshop and leaving rubbish on the ground including the empty car wash container and my fire hose lying across the gravel area behind the site for me to pick up ever monday morning!!! Since starting 4wding I have been washing my truck behind the building and leaving all the remains about 2'' deep mud, clay and sand over the site.No more picking up of the fire hose or rubbish on monday morning!!! Problem solved.
