strange knocking noise

was out 4wd on saturday and now have a strange knock under my 80 series. this doesnt happen all the time. today just driving on the road you could feel it coming thru the floor. to me it sounds like something is binding up or has broken but dont know what. the rear trailing arm bushes have been replaced, new shocks and springs all done within the last 6 mths. this started on sat when down river but only lasted 4 a few meters and never did it for the rest of the day. but started again today but is very irregular. any help would be great.

Loose panhard or radius arm? Body mount? (more of a Safari thing though)

have you got a spare 15k, if you have its yours. dont think its the radius rods as it seems to be more from the rear, will check the panhard rods

Does it do it at a specific time? (accelerating etc)
Probably easiest to start with all the bolts etc, unless someone else has had a similar experience.
They can be bloody annoying things to find

Could be a sway bar mount....mine made random clunking noises when i tore 1 off the rear diff

will check rear swaybay as theres no front on. will get it on my hoist tomorrow at work n give the girl a good goin over.

doesnt seem to do it at specific speeds. its just a ramdom thing n f..kin annoying, worst thing is i keep listen for it all the time.

its not your powersteering box tearing away from the chasis is it? they have a habbit of doing that.

definately not steering box. checked all bushes rods etc and everything seems ok. worst of all now when you put it into reverse the left hand side of the truck lowers with a graunching noise and is worse in low range. there is no sign of damage to anything underneath and even my local mechanic is bewildered. who is the local 80 series expert on here that i could pm

Rear shock collapsed???? When it compresses it binds up??

have had the rear shocks off and compressed them and they seem to extend out again smoothly but thats not to say under load it could be different

may have knocked a tooth off the crownwheel?? Sounds like a driveline bindup if you can hear the noise when the trucks not moving. Just a random guess though

seems to be only doing it when you shift from park to reverse n ya foot on brake. the left side of truck graunchers n lowers worse in low range. if you go from neutral to reverse or drive n no foot on brake it doesnt do it. vehicle still drives ok but have notice fuel economy is down. to me it sounds like brakes are binding on. remove calliper n piston moved freely so im at a f..kin loss, any help would be great.

Try the hand brake shoes in the drum. Or see how hot the hub gets after a bit of a drive.

sorted it was piston in calliper causing it . full of shit n bound up plus trail arm bushes binding.
