Finally got myself a 'Zuk!

Post by ike »

Woohoo, so i finally bit the bullet and splashed out... got what i think is a good deal for something with stuffed gearbox (but they are cheap anyway)

Couple of questions though:
how do you guys find the easiest way of getting at the dizzy to check points gap etc? she's in a pretty awkward position... and does anyone have the specs for it? ie gap and timing advance etc
What sort of temperature should they be running at? my thermostat seems good, radiator seems clean, no bubbles in the radiator but seems to run quite hot...
what's the best way to remove stickers from the paintwork?? have been told that glass cleaner is worth a try but wouldn't mind a second opinion ;-)
The noisy gearbox sounds to me like bearings... have priced up a couple of second hand boxes (one that i can drive before removal so i don't get a dud) but is it worth fising the bearings on mine or is that a shit of a job?
Anywhere around Hamilton to go for a bit of a play? hehe have found a couple of drains etc that i have crossed - or "forded", but don't want to go getting in trouble or being too silly ;-)

Cheers guys,
Ike

in all your excitement you forgot to tell us what sort of suzuki you brought.
LJ , SJ, Sammy , Vit ,Grand or Jimny?

best thing ive found for getting stickers/ decals off is the heat gun.
LR110 ..... LJ50 project

Nice

Best thing you could do now IMO is get it some lockers. A rear lockright would increase its performance off road so so so much.
phone Ross Bolus (secretary of the BOP club) He'll save you.

Cheers for all the input guys,

first of all is getting it back up to spec before the modifying... have sorted most of the leaks etc and have bought a new gearbox (well, second hand, but new to me) which will be going in tomorrow morning.

So far have done:
Head gasket
heater hose and heater elbow-to-head gasket
dizzy to head o-ring seal
front sway bar removal
front bumper removal
bit of driving/practice
spigot bearing
clutch cleanup (was a bit oily/jittery), by the way, do you guys have the thin metal cover below the block in front of the gearbox? i can see my flywheel from under the vehicle, mud/water infiltration a problem?

Tomorrow will finish off:
Sump gasket (easier with box off)
gearbox oilchange/install/test

Next payday hopefully get the rest of my suspension lift bits together and ready for the following weekend ;-)
