My Surf won't start, any idea's

Post by bazablue »

Once again the old girl is causing some strain on our relationship

My 1989 surf with a 2LT won't start, from what I can gather it's not sucking the fuel through to the pump, checked the fuel filter/seperator and that seems ok, pumped the seperator but doesn't seem to send fuel through like I thought it would but can't see that there's anything wrong with it

Could it be the fuel cut off solenoid, checked it with a multimeter and found that with the ignition on there was power at the solenoid, which I thought was wrong, but been suggested to me that with it wired up there will always be power at the solenoid with the ignition on :!: :!:

Any ideas more than welcome, as stuck in Whitby

I may be wrong but I don't think it has one......

Ready to be corrected though, I'm able to suck fuel through to the seperator, wouldn't recommend it as a drink though, so it appears to be at the injector pump end ?????

Yeah did that mate, little bit of fuel comes through but not enough to get it going, thinking about it fuel coming through could of just been from my frantic pumping of the seperator :(

Frantic pumping sounds like you are getting air in there somewhere, the manual pump at the fuel filter can leak air into the air line, try a temp bypass and see what happens.

Also the pump should pump up firm, I had one that was droping fuel back to the tank it was the seal in the top of the manual pump that was at issue in my case.

The other way is to block the in tank breather and put 15-20 psi in the tank and see if it will start.

Those little pumps on the top of the fuel filter are well known to crap out, have had one fail.
