Hi
Ever since putting the v6 holden engine into our truck it has had a slight oil leak between the engine and gearbox.
Engine is a ecotec v6 holden and as far as I understand the auto is the standard holden auto.
The oil is black so guessing it is leaking out the rear seals.
Question is, is it worth pulling out and fixing or just keep topping up with oil??
The truck is not a daily driver (prob only used 1 or 2 times per month) so not worried about oil consumption, and is only leaking when engine running therefore not going through a massive amount of oil.
Getting the engine out is going to be a bit of a job as the truck was built around the engine etc, but if needed will be able to jiggle it out.
Anythoughts, suggestions, advise welcome.

Over time it may get worse and get onto your clutch plate=big problems. Can't you just drop the gearbox instead of the motor.

Re: Oil Leak between Engine and Gearbox
if its a two piece seal like in my pos, you may be able to drop the sump and change it that way . thats how i did mine...holden may be the same , just a thought ......

v8 tj...luvs the gas......
Re: Oil Leak between Engine and Gearbox
I think the V6 is the same as the 8 in as much as the rear seal is a poxyarsed POS rope seal, but I am only guessing. If you are going to fix it, I would just haul the whole lot out (engine, box and transfer) It is sometimes the easiest way

Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Cheers for that. Might check with a mechanic when they open to see if can be done in place, also have a search on net.
The firewall of the truck is built around the engine so think may be to hard to pull gearbox off but will definately have a lie under there before unplugging stuff.

no to doing in place, has a one piece ali housing that takes a rubber lip seal (one piece)around the crankshaft, it a motor or box out problem
