Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
Technically it is a modification from standard so YES.
A WOF inspector must go on what is in the VIRM. If you are failed ask to see the relevant issue stated in the VIRM they are using.
They have this piece of the VIRM they can use if they really want to be a bastard and fail anything that isn't standard OE......
Condition and performance
1. The vehicle must be safe to be operated.
2. The components and materials must be fit for their
purpose and within safe tolerance of their state
when manufactured or modified.
There isn't anything in the VIRM that specifically states what size a body lift can/cannot be (or wether a body lift is ok or not), but a WOF inpector if they think it is modified can insist it be checked by a LVV certifier to see if it is OK.
If it looked dodgy I'd fail it, but if it was a good job I'd pass it but I would note it down on the check sheet.
Unfortunately the NZTA wants all the shit to fall onto the inpector if anything goes wrong, so it comes down to covering ones own ass if inspecting anything that has been modified.
The VIRM.....

PS..Nice bars etc

Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
Are we talking Body lift or suspension lift on your Disco? I think general rule suspension is ok as it is just swap of shocks and springs, no modification of mounts etc. where as with a bodylift you have modified the way that the body is attached to the frame and thats the reason it needs certing

Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
I read this and looks like it is legally all good
Springs and shock absorbers
• the springs or shock absorbers are direct replacements, and
• replacement springs fit and maintain contact with un-modified OE seats throughout full suspension travel, and
• replacement springs are self-retaining in their seats at full extension, without the use of non‑standard devices such as wire-ties, straps, or external spring locators, and
• replacement springs have not been heated or cut, and
• springs and spring seats are not height adjustable (unless OE), and
• replacement shock absorbers fit un-modified OE mountings, and
• suspension maintains sufficient travel for safe operation when fully laden, and
• suspension components maintain sufficient clearance from unmodified bumpstops when fully laden, and
• a minimum of 100 mm ground clearance exists below any part of the vehicle structure, or any steering, braking, or suspension component1, and
• the normal relationship between front and rear suspension height is not unduly affected.

Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
LOL Mudbuggar, I guess the body lift is the shady area of concern but hey
I'm Just in the middle of one of the guys trucks (from this site) at the moment with a 50mm lift, and to be perfectly honest its very had to tell it has it done, so I guess some "fanatical" (VTNZ) types could miss a few like this one... Thanks again guys, very helpful and all the best, Craig.

Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
Don't forget to update your insurance company with any new mods like a lift etc, and their replacement costs as well,
If its not listed they can use this as a reason to decline you if you need to claim. If its passed a wof and its all been declared on your insurance details then it makes it harder for them to decline you.

Surely you knew all these "issues" before you performed them on customer vehicles? Or is that not your line of work?
Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
Your too funny fella, we maintain and repair yes, but the legal side is always worth asking the question as our wonderful government are forever changing the rules.....

Re: 50mm lift legal issue!!!
I HAD THE SAME ISSUE ON MY KZJ78, I RUNNING A 100MM SPRING LIFT AND WAS TOLD I WOULD FAIL MY WOF ON IT, ASKED TO SEE IT IN VIRM AND HE STATED THE DIRECT REPLACEMENT PART CLAIMING MY SPRINGS/SHOCKS R NOT A DIRECT REPLACEMENT, I GOT AWAY WITH IT BY ARGUING THAT ALL THE BOGAN CARS ROUND HAVE LOWERING SPRINGS, HOW IS A SPRING THAT IS 100MM SHORTER A DIRECT REPLACEMENT BUT MY 100MM LONGER ONES ARE NOT? AND THEY DONT GET CERT'D????????????
ONLY WAY TO GET PINGED ON WOF IS THE WHOLE, ITS NOT OE SO NEEDS CERT, ONLY THING IN VIRM ABOUT SUSPENSION IS IF HEIGHT IS CHANGED IT CANT BE UNDER 100MM AND HAS TO BE SAFE, i.e NOT A ROUGH ASS JOB
