Loacl recovery squads

If you been following the last thread you have probably been in a similar situation before. Has got me thinking about forming local recovery groups to help each other out in times of dire need. When the shit really hits the fan and you need outside help. We could have the groups listed on the forum with contact numbers people can store on there phones/keep in truck. I'm willing to co-ordinate the chch group.

sounds like a good sensible plan.

when my vehicles road legal and the build is finished, i'll be keen to put my contact details forward.

that last thread really did illustrate the dangers of this fun sport in which we partake.

glad all those on that outing returned ok.

Yup I'm keen to be involved. Only got the stock Mu on the road at the moment but should have one of the FJs finished soon. No really...

I'm out in Waddington which is Darfield/Sheffield way so can help those further up the Waimak or Ashley etc.

Maybe a frequency on the radios we can try and keep common for all ORE chappies in case we're out wheelin and are needed people can holler on the radio. I know a few of the clubs do this.

Good idea, I will have a think about it overnight and see what the site can do to host this. If anyone has any ideas on what sort of system for looking up contacts, recording contacts let me know would be good ie. entering by region, by name, would need to be printable and carried in the 1st aid kit. etc

great idea guys :thumright: but the only thing that that concerns me is do these people carry sufficient rocovery gear and i dont mean just a snatch strap.

i think we should at least have people listed as what they are setup for ie bob has the extreme recovery gear...tirfor winch,plenty of cables,blocks ,tree straps winch etn,snig chains,chain saw and number one heaps of experience and can think fast.and then the not so extreme guys who can help with just a quick tow or something........

anyone agree or a stupid idea :?:

There are already 2 recovery groups set up in Wellington, a search and rescue team withing the CCVC and the guys from G Guy Motors often get the call to go rescue people to, I think they have recovery based 4wd's set up as well.

It still surprises me with the number of people who go out 4wding and don't even have a snatch strap!!! :evil:

I've spent a small fortune making sure i have the gear, and then you go using it on some other dickheads wagon. Its normally these same people that don't have a "rated' tow point either.

Unfortunately i'm not the sort of person to just drive off and leave them, so you end up potentially putting yourself in harms way because they weren't prepared!

Once we have this settled people could pm or email me the details.

Maybe if we came up with a scale, 1-5 of how kitted up people are, 1 being a stock truck but happy to help, 5 being twin diff-locked, 44" Simex equipped Unimog. :twisted:

Ok have thought about this overnight and the best and simple way is for me to modify the personal information page in "your account" and people can enter all their details about contact information, recovery equipment, vehicle type/setup and the most important piece of information is a toggle for availability(person might go away that weekend so turns it off so no longer is in printable list). The printable page will be taken from all active toggles in members profiles.

yeah same here. Suppose because I carry it all the time, I forget that others only carry a snatch strap, sometmes nothng. I suppose that whoever co-ordnates the local area will know what people carry.

good point the guys with the not so extreme trucks or gear can also offer an extra set of hands in a recovery.

When i got towed of the beach on sat the bloke who helped was a friend of grant guy and told me that when he ripped an oil hose, on his lexus powered hilux, on the half track buried on the surf line on windy bay that he called grant guy and he helped him off the beach.

And the tow truck driver told me that years ago there was a telephone at the start of red rocks so people could call for help but when one guy didnt get the help he wanted he smashed the phone up so no more phone.

Maybe try and contact those 4x4 Club dudes in Cantabury.Heaps of snow carange down that way.See how they co-ordinated themselves.Good PR for off roaders.Local/regional council should be the go.Civil defense is mostly a regional affair.Imagine it?Fully kitted/trained club dudes on call.Like a volunteer fire brigade if you will.Call outs = $,liabilty cover etc.Be like the TF or RF Army,`cept we wil be in NZ most of the time.

Hey Mke when you wor out to host and prnt this info from the site l;et me know. I will take it from there if you like to save you the trouble. Wll be looking for groups of people in areas with a main contact person. Will also be looing at peoples experence and gear so we can match the rghht stuff for the right time. Good chance to learn as well.

With what someone said about the radio channel would be handy for times when the phone gets stuffed or is flat.
Make sure I get put in the still learning pile with just a snatch and a spade lol.

Always keen to help and learn a few new tricks though!

bloody good idea mate, id be keen to help out in the queenstown area - have a couple of mates that would be keen as well slightly modded trucks with a bit of gear between the three of us. Just let us know the details for signing up and ill be there
