extended shifters
fitted my body lift blocks on saturday, still not convinced that one inch is enough for 31 inch tyres, anyway does anyone know where i can get my hands on a long gear shifter and longer transfer case shifter, gear shifter not as important but i need a longer transfer case shifter coz its now a pain to change between 2x4 and 4x4
cheers
cheers
Re: extended shifters
Good to see you finally fitted those blocks. Yeah I wouldn't worry about the gearbox shifter length. You should just see how the transfer shifter attaches or whatever and cut of or clone the bottom end and use a piece of bar of the correct diam. Just snake a piece of scrap from work maybe?

Re: extended shifters
Bro does it hit the front or rear of the hole now? does the boot bind? If its just the stick length thats troubling you I don't mind extending the lever 1 or 2" or something for ya.

Re: extended shifters
work out what ya need bro and if it needs to be offset or something we can heat it with a torch and bend it S shaped to clear and lengthen.

Re: extended shifters
Hi Escudo boy, I'm an absolute Noob at offroading, just bought my Vitara a few months ago and have done some muddy farm roads etc. Could you tell me whether there was anything other than extending the shifters involved in fitting the 1" body lift ? Did you have to modify the steering column or any of the mounts apart from the ones that connect the body to the chassis ? Thanks!
Re: extended shifters
Hey there,
As far as I know you dont have to do anything with the steering column as that is on a slight rise or something like that? it has heaps of movent in it either way. As for other mounts: I don't believe you have to do anything else as far as i know.
But if i'm wrong i'm sure people on here will put me in my place

Re: extended shifters
im an idiot....... it was hitting the hand brake
this can be fixed by applying hand break and then shifting into 4x4, and the only thin i need to do now is lengthen the O2 cable as it is tight as a nuns c*&t and im waiting for it to pull out the back of the plug

Re: extended shifters
Hi Escudo boy, did you make the lift blocks yourself or buy them from somewhere ? If you bought them, what did you pay for them ? I assume the cable you mentioned is the cable going to the O2 sensor on the exhaust ? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm quite keen to do this lift as step #1 soon!
Re: extended shifters
Hi Escudo boy. I've run both one, two and three inch body lifts in the 'scuds and only the three-inch needs the t/case shifter lengthened. Heating and bending slightly is sufficient to clear the shifter travel in a one or two-inch lift.
I also highly recommend loosening the intermediate steering shaft before lifting the body, then re-tightening it after the lift is completed, otherwise it can put strain on the steering box and seals which then start to leak and result in WOF failure (I found out by doing it wrong twice).
Nothing else usually needs to be lengthened but there are a few things which benefit from being loosened or released while the lifting process is carried out: fuel filler and breather pipes; left front brake line clip; brake distribution block on right hand chassis rail; power steering reservoir, inlet hose between airbox and alloy inlet (on 8-valve TBi models).
