Landcruiser / Chev power steer pump

Post by Sadam_Husain »

I swapped out my 3F engine for a sb chev a few months ago. I'm using a chev power steer pump to drive the cruiser steering box, it was plumbed in by one of the Pirtec guys and he's done a nice job of it.

I'm finding the steering can become a bit clunky at idle speed usually when the vehicles stationary. Are the chev pumps usually enough to drive the cruiser boxes or is the pump tired and needing overhaul or replacing or could something else be causing it?

The cruiser pump used to work fine and I never had any problems when stationary or at low speed. The vehicles a flatdeck 70 series and tyres are 33's.

Remove the pipe which screws into the screw in fitting in the rear of the pump, remove the screw in fitting and bore out the centre hole 1 drill size then clean, reassemble and try again.
This is assuming the fanbelts not slipping
