CAM BELT WARNING.

Post by SMOKEY »

Hi all, Having followed stories of conversions and disasters in ORE I would like to share some experiences and observations of an OLD FART motor mechanic , and I know a lot of you will be saying I have been running one for years and had no trouble . CAM BELTS ----- and ingestion of MUD,WATER,STONES,STICKS etc; can cause premature failure . I have been on three trips where I have witnessed this happen and worked on motors that have broken belts prematurely after being used off road .
My advice to all owners of vehicles which have Cam belts and Timing belts is to make sure your COVERS and SEALS are fitted and in good order, and make regular inspections and replace BELTS. Don't leave to the manufacturers 100,000 km recommendation
Good luck with all the conversions, I'm fifty six and have never had a standard vehicle yet .
My Mother said I would grow up one day ------- hope it's not for a few years yet.

GET DIRTY , FITZY .

I'd agree, I killed my wankers (Pajero) motor at about 60,000 blew the secondary timing belt (harmonic balancer thing'y) without that the timing belt skipt a tooth or two and F'd its top end  (roll on lexus  )

 If you think theres still time to grow up then there must be hope for me....

Cheers Reece
