I've looked into it for the same model truck - should have no trouble as long as it hasn't had an accident over there. Look at the costs tho - budget $2000-$2500 to get it here and get it legally on the road - might be cheaper just to buy one here in that year/model. I gave up because I wasn't going to save anything... and could potentially end up with something I may just have to part out if it failed compliance for some reason.

Depends on the engine... probably a good price if thats all you had to pay and it had the 3.0 litre turbo diesel engine (1kz) but not for any other motor...

If thats the price from Japan and you have to import it and get it complied on top then its probably worth shopping around in NZ - you can buy those for around that money here...

Since the problems with my truck, I've found out that you should recon the turbo as soon as it arrives.... along with doing the belts, oils etc...

For a truck around that year you should be paying about NZ$4000 up there I think.

As I said, depends on the motor... if its a 1kz, $4k would be a steal... they are still getting 8-10k

For a 2.4TD, 3-5k is reasonable

Ive imported some in and for a truck of this year, at the current exchange rate it should be around $4000. Unfortunitly it really is regardless of the internals. Theres the gamble, unless you know someone VERY VERY well up there.

will edit this .... I am talking about a 2.4 engine. sorry for the confusion

biggest thing is does it comply with frontal impact zone crap

mate was thinking bout getting a nissan skyline r32 godzilla (1992) but it dont comply due to not having front airbags

you can bring anything you want into nz but getting legaly on road is diff story

Frontal impact zones on a ladder-chassis vehicle don't apply to the best of my knowledge. This means you can still import an early 80's hilux and get it on the road, but you can't bring a far safer moderately late model car in...

Still - what do I care... who wants a car when you can have a Hilux anyway? :D

The critical date is 1st January 1990.

I am currently looking to export my 1990 Land-Rover to your great country and it was made on the 3rd of January, so I have to get all sorts of paper work. Anything older than that and My understanding is it just needs a wof.

see this site on importing vehicles. Should help understand a bit more and also on this site find the link about frontal impact standards as new ones have just come out.http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/factsheets/44.html

Hope this helps
