Thanks, I got them off trademe they had springs too - I was watching them for a couple of weeks and they got cheaper and cheaper then flatlined at $80 so I hit buy now
I haven't been through a wof with them yet as I've only just got the front axle redone....
My plan is to put a 5 inch lift all round in the truck for 35s and keep the spacers incase I feel like trying the 38s offroad

Todays progress:


Mounted the fairlead and gave the whole bullbar a coat of paint.
Looks good with the spotlights in there
Really need to fix up that bung passenger side...

Got the control box mounted inside the engine bay:

Also bought a hook off trademe so that should arrive next week, been winching my little civic across the yard, everything works fine but will more likely beef up the underside of the bullbar later on.
Not sure if I've got anymore room for guages here, maybe move the boost over next to the CB and could fit another two in there comfortably without getting in the way of my leg.

Sorted out my new headlight wiring, 80 series are known for having poor headlight wirings which doesn't perform well with standard lights let alone aftermarket bigger wattage lights.
I changed from a sealed beam to a semi sealed beam and now have 90/100w outer beams and 55w inners which are some sort of +20% lighting or something.

Just need to tidy it up and make a bracket for everything to bolt to.
My setup involves 3 relays for the headlights - low outer, high outer and high inner - 2 relays for spotlights - front and roof.
High/lows are wired to work together so they provide 190w each and at 14.4v battery I get no loss at the bulbs and each bulb bar one (driver side high beam earthing issue) is drawing just above what it is rated for, 455w on the headlights alone not including any spotlights yet
Anyway I'm out of Auckland probably till mid January with no internet connection so everyone have a wonderful holiday!

Got a bit of a mounting thing going with my distribution block, fuse block and headlight relays:

Still messy as fawk but managed to crank 650w worth of lighting on the front
Devised a devious little plan to swap the 60 series cable locker from my blizzard into the 80 - we'll see how that works out over the next month or so.
In the mean time it's job hunt and relocate to Hamilton

should fit straight into the rear but you'd have to get a custom axle made up for the long side

Yeah that threw a bit of a spanner in the works, was hoping for a complete OEM swap (ie: FREE) over but however, might have to get the lokka from wopass

Good work man, nice to see you giving everything a go.
You might want to look at a covering of some sort for the fuses and relays to keep the weather off them. Also secure all the wiring if you can - all your connections are crimped and movement will eventually fail the crimps.
Also perhaps label the fuses and relays so you know what's what when you are out and about and have any issues.

just noticed do you have bolts in the fairlead rollers or pins and circlips, if the latter change to bolts and nylocks

yes was winching with the cable coming into the fairlead on angle the side rollers poppped the circlip and pin dropped out the steel cage warpped too. had to add more strenght to it

After that truckwise it'll be a new 10" rim to through my 35s on then testing it out at thomsons track I guess...

You cant redrill those square ones but you can redrill the round flanges to fit

Yeah this one is a 60 front, older sixty front had square front and round rear pinions, new ones the other way around.
The 60 cable locker had a round flange and obviously the 80 lsdI pulled out the best one

NZ NEW 80 series
front = 2" dobis @ 1" actual + 2" coil spacer = 3" over JDM
rear = factory + 2" coil spacer = 3" over JDM
35x12.5 MTRs on 15x10 - hence the slight guard rub in the last photo ... would be sweet on 8" rims...
650mm under front right wheel, left rear has little weight on it but still grips - possible 700mm under front wheel?
Also got not quite enough 3" stainless for a bit of a side exit but we'll see how the next couple of days treats me...

Measures pretty much 600mm on all 4 corners +/-10mm
No flares but I'm not sure they make much of a difference.
All the figures I've seen on IH8MUD suggests that stock is 20" whereas my truck is 24" hence the 1" higher NZ NEW thing...

Got a round flange the other day thanks to Te Puke Partsworld.
Pulled the other one off and what do you know, course spline

Was told this when I got the diffhead but had fingers crossed it was going to be fine spline.
So need to do a bit of machining and welding and join the two together then down the line change diff ratios and go back to a fine spline

Well so far I've broken the winch

Started a bit of a box in the back

Pulled the motor out

Got the head off, visual inspection so far shows no obvious signs of damage

But noticed this shit on the #2 injector when it came out, it's also on the head too - anyone know what it is?

My engine reconditioner said that the mains and big ends were on the STD bottom limit and he was happy to keep them where they were instead of grinding to 0.25 and I should expect a little extra clearance which I got and was within Toyotas limits

All good, so torque to 103NM then turn a further 90 degrees

All done

Just waiting on a ring set and everything else can go back together

Haven't even got half the weight of the complete engine on there and it's sagging and bending
