Site Videos Upgrade - HD video processing

Post by mike »

Hi All,

Last time I changed the site to HD videos I got feedback from low end bandwith users about file sizes etc. Well I've spent 4 days and I've upgraded the videos to make two versions if they are above 640x480. So you get a nice low res version 640x480 and a HD version upto 1280x760. You will know there is an HD version available because in the top right corner of the player it will say HD in big white letters. just click on this before you press play otherwise youll be on the low res version and you will have to refresh the page.

I have also moved the site to the brand new mp4 format which everyone is using now (apple, youtube, pornhub  ) I'll upload an HD video tomorrow for people to play with so they can see the difference. While testing tonight I found that mp4 format is all mixed up when it gets resized (stops the streaming) and ive found a way to fix this which I will do tomorrow.

People are going to ask why have I done all this again? Well one member went to upload a waimak video of his truck and it was in mp4 format and the site broke as it wasn't handling it correct. So instead of doing a basic fix (like i do on my trucks) I did a massive upgrade and implemented the HD option which brings ORE videos up to speed.

Another thing I did was make the low res version good enough to play on low end computers as I noted this was a problem on some peoples computers when I was visiting.

So after tomorrow, upload any video you want and see how it goes. I've uploaded a low res 640x480 clip of the action camera testing I did around the south island. It has paintball, mountain biking and 4wding in it. with paintball the camera needed to be mounted on the barrel as your head wasnt always pointing straight ahead, note the 3x head shots in 1 second to me FFS!

Ok made the change that allows mp4 streaming.

I've uploaded a video to the site for the new contour HD cameras ORE is going to sell. These are the bees knees obviously in action cameras as they are HD.

Here is the demo clip from them

Make sure you click the HD before you press either of the play buttons (bug in the player where it cant switch between them). The non HD version is 640x480 resolution. Its when you maximise the screen that the HD comes into play. Imagine 4wds with this stuff. Awesome!

NOTE: some computers (older and slower) will not be able to play HD as it can stress the video card on them. I have spent hours optimising the best quality vs pay off in computer processing speed to display.

As a comparison in quality here is the 640x480 cheaper cameras

My job here is done now
