kzn130 surf airflow snorkel sugestions/thoughts

Post by bigstu »

just fitted a new style airflow snorkel to my surf, problem is they are to suit my trucks shape but the fittings are to suit the L series engines which have 50mm airbox pipes kzns have 76mm should i just fit a reducer setup or hack up the snorkel and tryn rangi 76mm right through? just worried if i hack it i will have issues with being reliably water tight for years to come.
thanks Stu

I think you know the answer already.
Well done for spotting this issue.

The KZ engine has much greater power output. This is developed via greater air input.

If you restrict the airflow in, you will end up with a rig that drives like it's powered by an L series.

Beware of Rangi thou...
polyethylene is VERY hard, nae, damn near impossible to reliably glue to.

The only answer IMHO is to get it plastic welded by a professional. If you do this with welds that are reinforced you should have both of what you need, reliability and airflow.

Take it back...youve just put a big restriction into the air intake...you told them the correct model (i assume) & it should be right .

i have no problems with the quality just the fact they dont make these to suit the 1kzte they just make them to suit body and the engine thats mostly found in that shape, i think in aussie the 1kzte wasnt greatly around til there 97+ hiluxes il prob get the outlet of the snorkel enlarged as the rest is huge it will still look better and cost less than a safari brand. by the sounds of the posts on aussie sites they just use reducers totally oblivious to what theyre actually doing
