...Still, we actually have no idea how fast it will turn them yet since no-one I know has done this conversion (its been done, just not by anyone I know).
Anyway... after finally getting back from Nelson at 2am, I was up again first thing and off down to the shed to get this underway (well, first thing... 11am... all the same really, it was before lunch

Apologies to those with dialup... *I* have dialup and *I* uploaded all the pics then wrote this, so you'll survive I'm sure

So, old motor out and on the floor... this took all of about 90 minutes...

Then trial fit the bellhousing (bought off trademe... actually a rough-as-guts mangle between an adaptor plate and an auto bell... really totally unimpressed with it, but its all we've got):

And after major stuffing about getting enough bolts in it to keep me happy we trial-fitted the motor in the engine bay:

And an underneath shot of clearances... this motor was made for a solid axle Hilux:

While doing this we discovered the reason for vibration in the driveline... Toyota people will spot the obvious straight away... how long ago does it look like there were bolts in the gearbox mount???

So, a 4WD Stuff crossmember is in order (well, 2 bolts were in order, but this gives 75mm (3") more clearance under the crossmember, so its a good option.

Clearance gained:

...and bolting it in place, the host for this evening - the lovely Rik, sporting a rather last-season polarfleece and an overworked ratchet

After fitting up the engine it because apparent the existing engine mounts were not even close, but the diesel engine mounts could, and would have to be, used in place of the Supra ones which were too long, and one of them was stripped apart from the last 1/2 turn of thread... so out with the angle grinder...

And back in with the motor to check where things needed to go, angles for engine mounts, clearances for the rad, etc. And I swear this motor fits better than a 5M supra... its just compact and tidy like the 5M isn't... check all the free space on the passenger side inner guard!

From the drivers side:

So, thats 2 part-days down...
Tomorrow the engine mounts will get bent up and fitted and the engine will be fitted for (hopefully) the final time, with the new flywheel and clutch fitted (using a god-knows flywheel and, I believe, a 3S-GTE heavy duty clutch... I don't know too much about the conversion kit... some of its bodge, some of its unlabeled... but it was used previously in a conversion so I'm hoping and assuming it works... or Riks gonna be going north to find the guy - and I might go along for the ride...

Wiring? I'll post some pics of the loom... its a monster, but like all EFI looms theres only going to be small parts we need... theres no airflow meter... just a MAP sensor which will make things a little simpler, but there are a lot of plugs that go nowhere in and around the engine... yay

Day 3 to follow:... same bat channel, same bat time...
