ORE North Island Safari

Post by mike »

Hopefully the winch challange is on again around the end of october. I going to run a trip from wellington to rotorua/coromandal around then with tracks on the way and after. Spending 1 or 2 days at the winch comp and the rest on various north island tracks. I am thinking of a week on the road, others can come and go as they see fit, meet at various points along the way etc.

Any thoughts on tracks welcome.

No didnt drop into it its right at the end after a couple of bogs sharp left up a climb then into a bog to annother long hill climb for about 1km then drops down comes back out about half way back to the start. It was fairly dry usually its a winch up the hill but we drove it this time.

Well I normally go up and marshal at the winch comp every year for a couple of days so thought might combine it to fit in with the comp. that way get to do some 4 wheeling, get to see some real 4whweeling, get to catch up with some members.

guys guys, Pureora is how it's spelt (and prononced). What was the dates you're thinking of Mike, I'd be keen to help with the tracks in Pureora (it's my back door). There is some other good ones besides Bog inn, probably enough for 1.5 - 2 days worth depending on conditions.

Don't forget there's some cheap/comfy cabin accomodation at the headquarters complete with heaters and a complimentry BBQ. All within 20k's of some top North Island 4wding.

Tonys track, Rotorua hiway, and one killer down hill off Swamp Rd dont know that the name only as 'O' shit I hope this doesnt hurt too much. ( great at nite ) plus tracks in Ranganiu block Accom at YMCA camp only minutes away with hot showers etc etc make as much noise as you like or can...and very cheap . We may be able to organise some tracks for you in this area if keen and we know some killers.... :o :o   8)

Ok now we have dates for the winch challenge I'm thinking of heading up the thursday (from wellington) spending a couple of days in the central region Pureora (till sunday) then marshelling Mon, Tues and home wednesday.

The dates are 19-24/25 which spans a weekend. Thursday depart is the 19th with wheeling on the 20th, 21 and some tracks on the 22 around rotorua perhaps before hitting the campsite for the night at the winch challenge.

Ideas? tracks? people?

Use the good cheap cabin acommodation at Pureora headquarters for a couple of nights pre the weekend (enquire at Doc Pureora -Ph 07 878 1080) and I'll come out and do some tracks with ya. :)

- Pete good to see you finally showing your love for toyota

bugger, didnt even realise that was labour weekend. just going off the winch challenge dates. Guess there is a slight conflict in event dates there. Not so good running two national events on the same weekend, the sport is not so big to cater for both me thinks
