Been thinking we should start a list of people with the skills some of us need to "rent" every so often. By my way of thinking its always best if you are refered by someone who has had work done previously cause if they're recommending them they must be happy with what they've done!!

So if anyone needs help for the job types below PM me and i'll put you in touch with the person (I won't put numbers here till i have the persons permission) and remember cash is king!!

I do windscreens/automotive glass. Can get the best deals on new windscreens and other body glass. Or, for all you guys with rust around the screen of your Surf we can remove and refit the screens. Jobs can be done onsite almost anytime (helps pay for my upgrades).

Also know a good auto sparky

Excellent idea H2olova Image.

Please PM if anyone knows/recommends a local (canterbury) diesel mechanic who will do foreigners (not the immigrant kind !).

Cheeky bugger Grunter Image. Dont pretend I'm handy with the spanners, but reckon my areas of expertise would have to be:
1/ How to hide the expense of purchases from the handbrake
2/ Where best to order bling bling abroad
3/ Post traumatic stress disorder counselling 4 when the handbrake does find out !!!
Essential bloody stuff I would say.

i'll see how the mods on my 40's tub look, then post more pics with details and let you guys decide if his services are needed.. :D

oh, and his specialty is metal fabrication, works on resto's, hot rods and the likes... very fussy customers those hot rodders... :bubble:

he did the rust cut on my 40's door and did a superlative job... he does in his spare time so jobs are good but not mega quickly performed..

this is the door he did.. about 3 inches up he cut door bottom off and refabricated and welded.. nice finish too... :tonbreu: quality..

I can see the connection there... I have enough trouble with my own computer  without trying to deal with someone elses :( . Thats the good thing about 4wding you can have a shit week and then thrash the ass of your truck for a day and life is suddenly good again
everyone must know someone who has looked after them, done a good job etc.

Yeah, I know a guy, always keen to help, way too much spare time on his hands.......(not that his wife seems to know....)
he can weld bullbars, fit lockrite's, winch's, snorkels, breathers, roll landcruisers in rivers, then chop them into 2 doors........
And he's not bad at autoglass too!!! (he did the wife's L200)

Gee, I hope your wife doesn't read this dude

Yeah OK. i'm handy with the spanners and can tack steel together  , But what i was getting at here was more to do with putting people in contact with (dare i say it)....professionals....and if you don't know the right people/person to deal with you end up paying through the nose :x and on that note i can also get good discounts from BNT and Repco(Cruiser/Hilux Birfield, aftermarket $76Incl GST)

The warrant man seems a little unhappy about a little patch of rust near the bottom of the a-pillar on the old Surf. Anyone in a position to fix this properly so I can make him smile and stick the sticky thing on the windscreen so I can sell the old girl?
It's got a couple of months to go on the warrant so no rush but just wanted to put it up for sale with a full 6 months.

im only a poor student but work part time at lindsay distribution so can get cheap couriering of most items in the south island. like a set of tires from invercargill...free. prices go by cubic meter, and will take a couple of days. we also get cheap windscreens through steiger glass but that wont be much help as seems to be alreay covered.

Ask Niblik to put you in touch with his man. Pretty handy at panel repairs.

would need to be a proper ticketed job though according to the warrant chap by an approved repairer, Niblik could your mate help out with it? Would need receipt and maybe even photos before covering back up with paint. Maybe my wof guy is just being a bit "careful"

Tempted to just sell it and drop the price accordingly actually the repair should only be a couple of hundred bucks I would have thought.

As long as repair is carried out in a professional and tradesman like manner your warrant chap hasn't got a leg to stand on. How would a panelbeater fixing his own car get a receipt? Nibliks mate is a professional sheetmetal worker so you shouldn't have any issues there. If you wanted you could get WoF guy to see it before painting so he can check quality of repair, or you could always take it to another warrant place!!! I have some contacts here if required.

rust repairs

Post by Goose »

I've dealt with running a car thru after a rust fail for the in-laws car....
unfortunatly it was the testing station..... 1st mistake.
Although the repair was awesome, and professionally done, they got snotty cos they "couldnt see the welds"
The f@**n hole was gone!!!! There was fresh paint!!!!! and you could see the weld line where the hole was!!!!! dickheads!!!

So I took it to my mechanic, who said "sweet"

The moral of this story? If you fail a wof for rust, take it somewhere else once repaired. And dont EVER, EVER go to the testing station.

Gidday,

I'd say my skills on spanners are more a hindrance than a help but I can take on wiring. Done a cruiser -> chev LT1 conversion recently, before that dropped a 5EFE into a carby starlet, and done full looms for a few rally cars.

Loom splicing a specialty...

Certainly available for questions, professionally i'm an electrical/software engineer but certainly wouldnt mind swapping my skills for a bit of welding.. i need new a new bumper ;)
