WORKING IN WITH DOC

Post by nuts »

I KNOW ALLOT OF PEOPLE DONT EXACTLY THINK ALLOT ABOUT IT  BUT AFTER A RECENT ENCOUNTER (BULLER AMP SHOW ) OUR LOCAL 4X4 CLUB WAS INVITED BY DOC TO DO AN EXIBIT AT DOCS SITE FOR PREMOTING RECREATION ON THE WEST COAST ( A BIT OF GOOD PUBLICITY) :D :D :D
SO I RAN A LAPTOP THROUGH AN EXTERNAL MONITER SHOWING SLDIESHOWS AND VIDEO OF TRIPS OF KNOWN 4X4 TRACKS FLAG AND JEFF ALSO HAD 4X4S THERE SO PEOPLE COULD VIEW THEM AND TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. 8) 8)

IT WENT SO WELL DOC HAVE ASKED IF THEY DO SOMETHING ON THE SAME LINES NEXT YEAR WOULD WE BE INTERESTED IN DOING IT AGAIN
ANY WAY I WAS TALKING WITH SOME OF THE DOC PEOPLE AND USING ASBIT OF MAPPING DATA WILL GET A FEW MORE KNOWN TRACKS IN THE AREA AROUND DENNISTON TO GIVE TO DOC TO HELP WITH PREMOTING SOME MORE OF THE READILLY AVAILABLE 4X4 ACCESS THAT WE HAVE OPEN FOR USE :!: :!:

FOR THOSE THAT DONT REALISE IT THERE IS MORE TO DENNISTON THAT JUST THE INCLINE AND IF YOU HAVE EVEN A STANDARD 4X4 THERE ARE ALLOT OF THINGS HIDDEN AWAY TO SEE :D :D

ANY WAY THE POINT IS HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD A CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AS THERE SEEMS TO BE A MORE USER FREINDLY APPROACH FROM DOC HERE AND WONDERED IF ITS BEN NOTICED ANY WHERE ELSE :?: :?: :?: :?:
people think i have a problem with insanity .... i dont i enjoy every minute ..... 0278900597

It sounds like you've got a really user friendly DoC conservancy down that way nuts. It dosent work like that for us in Wellington and probably a lot of other areas, too bigger population base and too fewer areas available for 4x4. Back in the early 1990's when DoC created the National ROS policy (Recerational oppotunities spectrum) that included a statutory requirement for conservancies to provide 4x4 oppotunities we got allocated an old bridle track in the back of Wainuiomata that was locked and they always came up with some sort of reason for denying access and requiring it to stay locked.

its sad that a lot of these situations occur. Was watching a 4wd monthly dvd the other night and the old boy on it put it very well saying that it seems as though tracks are being closed just to keep people out, its as though they just dont want people to see the sights there trying to protect.
Im hopefully going to get into DOC work so will try push for some more tracks to be opened BACK up :)
