High beam indicator reversed....

Post by HedgeBoar »

After my samurai's last good sinking, the high beam indicator light on the dash now lights up when the lights are on low beam, and not when they are on high.... I've also changed the headlights out for some new sealed beam ones since then, can't see why this would cause it though...

Anyone have any experience with this? Bad earth somewhere?

The pins on the back of the new lights are back to front.
You now have the problem you are talking about.
Solution :

Take the wires out of the plug & swap them round,
low beam l _ l high beam
earth

highbeam l _ l low beam
earth

problem sorted :D

You misunderstand -- The lights themselves function normally, high and low beam correspond to the correct positions on the light switch. It is only the indicator light that is behaving incorrectly....

The High beam indicator also comes on when the brake lights are used (with the headlights off).

Id be starting with checking the earths are still attached - had a mere of a time working out why my caravan was doing something similar with inidcators and park lights.. earth wire wasnt grounded properly

---
just re-read the problem.. so the highbeam light in the dash comes on when in low beam... and not when in high beam.. sounds like something is reversed or not earth right somewhere

but really im just guessing... :)

have fun

i had a similar problem after cleaning the column control cluster.

turned out the grease i had lubed it all up with was conductive and causing some strange circuit paths while indicating and using head lights and breaks. seen it in trucks used alot in mud as well, same issue but mud in the cluster

how deep were you swimming , did the column or column plugs go under water , or the main loom connection at passenger side firewall? could be crap in the plugs creating earth paths as well.
