hearing loss
hearing loss
hi all
due to pre employment medical today and having found my old hearing test paper I took it along and my hearing has deteriated majorly in the last 6 years poss to using rifle with out hearing protecton on hunts, not at the range where I always wear hearing protection and have worn it at work and at home in noisey environments, I'm now looking at hearing protection for hunting
to all those out there with better hearing than me look after your hearing before you lose it !
the only bonus I get is not hearing the other half hagging in the background

Re: hearing loss
The worst thing about earing loss is the cost...ive looked at hearing aids....about $3000 per ear for real good ones & ACC is deaf to me asking them to pay
Re: hearing loss
Had annual medicals when Iz in the mines and few of us had deteriarating hearing in one ear, closing of the ear drum from the rifle they reckon.Just so happens to be the left ear, you know. the one closest to the misus when driving! haha

Music shops should have em. The rockshop has some good ones. Ain't cheap but cheaper than a hearing aid.

Re: hearing loss
A mate had a pair of electronic ones, amplified noises like a fox walking through the scub ujnder the gum trees out of Canberra, BUT damped out rifle shots a treat. If I hadnt been testing them, I wouldnt have heard the fox, now a nice fur on a colloar....
Shooting equipment in Sydney some place, full earmuff types but with good directionality.

Gunshop down the road had some of those, $150 i think, so i chose the $20 ones, but might invest for huntung.

THEMS the ones!! Stan paid some $350 for his in 1996 so they have dropped a bit, yes? But hell, they worked a treat, that fox musta been 150 meters away and I heard him walking up the hill, hardly heard the .243 go off.
There is an added benefit in wearing them, you tend to shoot better, cos you aren't flinching from the noise and anticipated recoil.
No, didnt try an offhand shot at that range!! I'm good but not THAT good, let the red devil come up to around 50M and whacked him thru the swede.
