This is a system that controls the power distribution to the glow plugs in order to improve the starting performance of a diesel engine. It contributes to a clean-air environment by supplying power to the glow plugs even after the engine has started to thereby improve ignition performance.

It seems to be the unit which emits the "BEEP BEEP" when I go into reverse............................does it do anything else? What does removing it achieve?

When you do the cab swap, make sure you relocate it up high under the dash, but orientated so the plug is at the bottom. We had it upside-down originally and when it gets wet, it fills with water and it won't glow for starting.
