ok, doing some mods to my dads truck while hes over seas

im after some info on where to get/what brand of snorkel and fitting instructions

never done a snorkel before :roll:

as above its a turbo 4.2 deisel.

its also getting lock right diff locks and a body lift :twisted:

little bit worried how its going to be on the road with a lock right in the front

...

anyone know where i can get a part time kit for it ? have seen them for sale in aussie and would make it cheaper on gas and more tyre friendly as well i guess :?:

allready has a 2" sus lift and running 35"s on it (set for road and set for off road) and it really looks the part :twisted:

...have to wait for him to get back to go test it out...... november ! ! !

go for a safari snorkel, way better than airflow, they are much easier to fit and flow way more air. or go for a nice piece of 3inch stainless pipe and an elbow, thats what ill be doin to the patrol and removing the crap air flow that doesnt .

The part time kits can be bought from marks adapters

$525AUD buy the time you add freight, change that to NZ currency and buy the auto locker, you may aswell put an air locker in the front.

if i put an air locker in it, it would still need the part time conversion kit to gain the advantagees of lower running costs and less wear and tear on tyres/driveline and of course reducing backlash.... so that would be air locker AND part time kit..$$$$$$$$$$ bugger that.

i see Genie has the part time kits for sale for $700 NZD so that might be an option.but i cant find a price there for the safari snorkel to fit the 80 series cruiser.... isnt there a guy on here that works there ?

if there is...I need some prices dude :wink:

as for the snorkels, why is the safari brand better than the airflow ?

Safari fits better.

As for the part time conversion. I would keep it it full time 4wd, thats what makes the 80 series cruisers so bloody brillient. I take it the 80 hasnt got front, back or centre difflocks then?
Anyway my personal opinion would be go for an ARB in the front and keep full tiem 4wd. but if you want to go the conversion route, Craig at Genie4x4 is a good guy to deal with.

I 've fitted three Airflow snorkles so far, and for $299 you can't go wrong.

All your buying is the bit that goes on the gaurd anyways, you make the rest your self out of steel ribbed air ducting. Much better and less joins to seal

$500 for the safari snorkel is just nuts IMHO :roll:

I'll help ya throw the snorkle on when ya get Ben. Being scrawny has its advantages :wink:

dont put a lockrite in the front had one in my 80 and what a dog it crabbed up like an old clark skidder with fact detroits.

ill ask my mate if he wants to depart with his spare elec rear locker.

try bbm motorsport in aus i think they where doin deals like 450-500 new for lockers to suit what you need.

Go the Safari snorkel. 4 inch hood instead of 3 inch. Already tells you you've got more airflow. They are easier to fit and have heaps better flow once inside the guard too. The airflow has a mich shorter snorkel body and requires more bends in piping once inside the quard.

They look heaps better too.

Not that i can talk as I have three airflow snorkels. Have fitted lots of safari ones though. Sob sob. need more money.

i have the lockers here which my dad bought before he went overseas,and hes keen to get them in and see what its like,i really want to do the part time kit as i know what you mean about it wont be very nice with the locker in the front.... will put the lockers in and see just how it is on the road.

definatly doing snorkel so the recomended snorkel is sounding like the safari one ? still have no price on it yet.....

Hey Wopass,

If they are the same locka units (ie will fit in the front of my 40) I`ll buy the front locka back off your Dad so you can buy the other unit??? Just let me know. Otherwise I`ll order the front locka throuh Steve (dont think he will mind either way at the moment). Would be good if it`ll fit as we`d be one step closer for parts.

sorry dude, the front of the 80 series is a smaller unit and wont fir the 40 series diff...

dont know what ever possesed them to do that, big heavy truck and put an 8" diff into the front of it..... must have all been wasted at the time or something :roll:

I have rebuilt both the front and rear diffs(both have factory lockers) in my friends 80# toyota.I found that while the diff head is quite small in size it is packed with very large bearings,gears etc I would think its a very strong unit.
