I had LPG in my FJ40 for years - nothing especially wrong with it - but at todays prices it really doesn't make sense. When comparing costs, allow for using about 20% more LPG than you would on petrol, and the price is about the same. I pulled it out a couple of years ago when LPG prices rocketed. You will also have a slight loss of max power unless you can increase compression. Then there is annual LPG WOF at about $80-$100, tank cert every 10 years, and the space and weight of having the tank mounted somewhere. On the plus side - you will never have carb flooding problems on steep angles (nor will fuel injection), and if you're looking at engine mods, it's 100 octane so can run at higher compression.

apart from the problem of running out in bush if the unforseen happens, then use it, large heavy tank to carry , with hoses that need protection and of course the gas warrant, how ever you should be able to run a gas carb on motor, if it all turns to custard turn the injectors back on and you have petrol.

i think ign timing needs to be altered for the motor to run properly which is a slight problem with stock computer, holden did do a gas/petrol chip i believe.

cheers

LPG runs on all angles, burns cleaner but you don't go as far on the same litreage.

LPG Evaporator can freeze in cold temp's.

You can advance the timing a lot on LPG to gain back some power ad economy but have to crank it back for petrol.

It is good as long as you know there are some limitations

Where are you? You can have my old FJ40 setup if you want it... The 2F 4.2 litre setup should be about the right regulator for a commie V6... You'd just need the venturi setup. Everything else is here, but the tank cert runs out next year...

I've run a number of dual fuel and dedicated LPG vehicles- 2.4L L200 Sport, Falcon and 1986 Landcruiser. I'd be wary now though with the price of LPG - it's pegged to international pricing and the last time I considered it,there was not much savings to be had compared to petrol.

The only reason I would use lpg off road use is to get around carburators not liking steep angles. cant see any point with your injected v6.

I'm also thinking about LPG, though I'm not in the country at the moment. Sounds like the price is getting up there making it uneconomical. Can anyone give a current nz comparison of Diesel, 91/98 and LPG?

Cheers

Diesel is $1.29 per litre
91 is $1.79 per litre
98 is $1.85 per litre
and LPG - Pass, not many stations in the Wellington area have it anymore, not worth their time... and more and more stations in the Wellington area are closing down as well...

Probably to wire in the 4 wires that you need for the computer
