Hi all,
I am looking at doing a motor change from a 2.2 to a lexus.
I have been told that drive in drive out would cost about 10k??

Anyway i would perfer to do it myself, as when i bend in brake things, i would know the set up inside and out which would help in replacing tho's bits.

So then what do i need to know?

Is there different sump setups?
Which box is best?
Exhaust manifold?
What mods need to be done so she fits?
Cooling system?
Brakes upgrade?

As you can tell i know F-all about it,,,So Help is in need!!!!

The front sump is the preferred model as far as I know for beam axle hiluxes/surfs. I am doing mine on an 85 surf and it clears the diff on the front. I have heard some people putting a notch in the corner of the sump, but I don't reckon I will need to. Only prob with front sump is you have to fab up a new one if you want to use cross over steer.

Used standard height mounts from kelvin from the cartune company on trademe. They fit good, but I did have problems with the lifted type.

If your going for a manual the r series boxes are real strong, but the w will probably do fine. I know of one guy running a g52 and he is into comps etc. I'm going the auto route coz its cheaper and the box that I had was rooted. Got a chain drive transfer from TM $100 and fitted it with a bit of diddling around.

I am using the log style headers because I am cheap and not too worried about hp. You can get some extractors from Castle Hill in oz think they are about $7-800. Also spoke to Kelvin a while back and he said he had a design and was looking for someone to make them up. Getting the right 1uz with log style headers is a good start as finding second handies can be a mission.

I'm going for an alloy rad, as these motors can be challenge to keep cool in lux, bout $600 from an outfit in auckland whose name escapes me.

Will be doing a disk swap on the rear axle. I have got some subaru calipers and my mate cut out some brackets. Just need some rotors, seal kits etc. Plus you have to get a larger master cylinder from a v6 and that.
