testing tps sensor g16a and timing issue

anyone know how to do it ? coz i just tried then with the multimeter and got 12.1 off on the left side of the plug and running got 14.1 and on the right side of the plug i got zero off and zero running ? read something as its spose to go from 1 to 5 volts while revving etc ? also whe i did the timing the tdc dot on the pulley was like a 10mm blur rathr then a dot while trying to time it, either the lights budget or somethings wrong

Hi wildplumdx

What you were reading is supply voltage .
Ground your meter and find the supply conect this to the appropriate wire on the sensor . Retest with muilt meter on the other side of the sensor to ground..
Sounds like a cheap light or bad pickup at lest.

thanks sj yeah i just won me a optilux timing light on trade me for 25bux so now i got a decent one! will try that tomorrow let you know how i get on!

ok this is what i did tps connected engine running meter grounded to negative of battery used positive to stab the top wire on the tps got 5v reading while revving stayed 5v 2nd wire down from top of tps got 0.1v and while revving went up to 1.3v so i think its bung ?
