Diff gasket leaks

Been having lots of issues with rear diff gasket failing. normally after a hardcore trip, get little puddle on driveway. when I pull it out find the bottom section has been blown out. also find that nuts are a bit loose.
Would this be from taking hits on diff head?
I'm using terrain tammer gaskets that seem thin but not had issues with any of the others.
The diff is a factory e-locker, in a Kzj78.

always use non setting jointing compound when putting togeather.

Is it normal to go through these, also any ideas on how to slow or stop it happening.

I just use LOTS of red goo. haven't had a seal fail yet

Yeah What he said just make sure the surfaces are clean & don't have any burrs on them.

I use Loctite Master Gasket...
And no gasket..
Never leaked...
And although it sets hardish, comes apart easily.
As with all sealants / gasket compounds both surfaces need to be very clean.

I have same setup but a Retro fitted Elocker in KZJ78...

You have to ask the question is a location pin loose / missing?

Are the faces flat.

Is the breather blocked and pressurising the diff.

I was having the same drama , finally figured out that i was filling the diff with oil to fast after reassembly and not allowing the gasket sealer to cure properly first.

Using locktite flexible gasket sealer and no gasket at all, no leaks since.

Thanks for all the feed back, didn't think of checking if the breather was blocked. Will pull apart again and use straight goo let it set well and hope.

hey man.. thats crazy cos i got the kzj78 too with factory e locker and i noticed mine leaking last w.e and jumped underneath to have a look and yea about 4 bolts at the 6-9 oclock position were like not even finger tight tripped me out.. but first time ive struck it and had truck bout 7 months

When I rebuilt the front diff in my 80 series there was a number of bolts that were barely finger tight on it as well.

I've since had both diffheads out and sealed with gasket goo and haven't had any problems.

Hey, I've got the same problem with the rear diff gasket on my kzj78. When you replaced the gasket did you have to take the axles out to get housing off?? This would include wheels and everything right?

To get the diff head out, you need to remove the axles...

a option and i am not sure if this will work, is to unbolt the diff head and see if you can move it forward 4-5mm, if you can, degrease the hell out of the flange, inject rtv into gap and retighten the bolts, could be quick fix , like i say it may not work
