Good work.

Don't mean to be a kill joy. But do you think there will be enough room for the axle to articulate there?

This is the setup I've had made for mine. Works a real treat. Doesn't limit the articulation at all while stopping the axle tracking.

Yeah theres quite a bit more room under there than there appears to be in the pick an given that it can twist/flex at both ends I dont think itll limit articulation much at all or put too much strain on the rod itself. (Wont really know till I try it tho  )

I did see pics of your one, I didnt really like the Idea of the axle end being fixed, therefore placing all the articulation forces on the shackle at the crossmember end and on the weld in the middle where the two pipes are joined, but I have seen a few like your one an Im glad it works.
I just thought my idea was simpler an easier to change if it didnt work properly

Had a busy week/weekend, Booked the 40 in for certification on the 22nd of feb. Not too uch left on the to do list

Found one of my rear calipers had partially seized pistons, so I pulled both of them off stripped an rekitted them.
Image
Image

While I had the calipers off I remade the caliper brackets with thicker 5/8 plate cos I wasnt happy with the caliper spacing of the original brackets.

Got some roll cage pading fitted around the passenger area of the cage to keep the certifier happy.

Bought an fitted a steering wheel from a toyota merino,(Most toyota steering wheels would have fitted.
Image

Made some aluminium heat shields for the exhaust system cos it was making the floor a bit too hot

Had some shiny parts arrive from 4wdbits the other day
Got some 25mm wheel spacers for the rear end to stop the rear tyres rubbing on the inner guards.
Only prob was the shanks on the wheel studs were too long, so I put some hardened washers under the heads of the studs, an cut 5mm of thread off each stud
Image
All done
Image
Thought I better try it out to check clearances (any excuse)
Image
Image
Also fitted the F#$k ugly ply rear door, (temporary  )
Image
Perfect, with the new spacers Ive got about 20mm clearance

Well took the 40 for its cert yesterday, got knocked back on:
RR tyre sticking out past the flare by 5mm  ,

Seat frame is only mounted with two bolts either side at the rear (he wants 4 or an extra bracket tying it to the tub in the centre.

Rear cage floor mounts arent the right shape  ( will pass if mounted directly to the chassis as I was planning to do but had run out of time to do,

Not enough padding on the front of the cage, apparently everything above the seat height has to be padded whether you can reach it or not

He wants the doors fitted cos its easier to cert with them on than not (painted them but ran out of time to refit)

Thats all he'd found when I rang today. Not too bad really.
Ill be picking it up tomorrow to get it all finished off ready for rechecking an signing off next week fingers an toes crossed

He said he was a bit scared taking it to 100k for the brake test (pussy), but was surprised by how well it handled an stopped at that speed, so Im relatively pleased with myself. Might take a day off work thursday an hit it all at once

That's kind of interesting... I have some rubber flares of you're after some - can't tell what you've used on yours. So what size plate did you use at the base of your roll cage? I think I went for 150x150x6 which was mentioned under one of the MANZ classes - plus connecting it to the chassis. Seat mounting bolts sounds kinda interesting... is this where it's mounted to the cage? Can you get away with larger diameter bolts or is there more to it? i.e. not enough bracing/strength at that point?

All in all that doesn't sound that bad... padding, flares, doors etc are relatively straight fwd. Guess traveling 100kph without doors on would seem a WHOLE lot faster!

Nice work

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, thats coz the last cruiser he took for a brake test was a prado with a lexus and at 100kph the left rear locked up and took an extra second to unlock, so he was fishtailing down the road trying to get it under control at 100kph, fair crapped his pants on that one

Both rear hoop mounting plates are 80x120x10 top an bottom.
I was planning on chassis mounting them It didnt cross my mind that id need to for the cert.

The main thing with the mounting points was that they were square not radiused. But that doesnt matter when its chassis mounted.

The issue with the seat frame was that it was only mounted at the rear with only 2 8mm bolts each side  . Ill drill them out for 10mm bolots.
Im also adding 2 6x170x100mm plates bolted to the tub an welded to the seat frame directly behind each seat.

The wheel flares are actually some rubber strip that covers the top of truck curtains cut to suit  Im a cheap ass.
Should be able to just move the mounting holes. He didnt even write it down on the check sheet.

Padding is the easy part Ive emailed the person I originally bought it off to organise some more.

Doors need to be finished off, still got to clear coat them an put them back together.

Well in that case skid Im not too surprised he was scared of mine

And some serious mud to have a play in! Looks the part now... I like the black contrasting on the orange (or is it yellow?). Top marks on getting it to this stage and not letting it drag on ;-)

Yeah cant wait to get it legal an find some mud to play in  already got a warrant check done just got to cert it then the wof will get signed off

Its yellow, but looks diff dependin on the light. Those pics were taken at 7am lol.

I think it looks good with the black doors breakin up all the bright yellow paint.

Im far too impatient to let it drag on, I want it running yesterday  , was never supposed to go this far in the beginning but glad it has
