Looking for springs - where to buy??

Post by marmel »

I live in the deep dark south and we only have repco locally for car parts.

I want a set of 3" lifted springs for my LWB GQ TD42 and possibly shocks to match.

I have read good things on here about Dobinsons so enquired with the NZ distributor, autolign. Thet claimed they can't supply springs with a 3" lift??

Are there any vendors here or guys that work in the trade that can hook me up?

Do shop around for prices tho as they are quite variable at times and you might get a sweet deal like I did. Dobinson did do 75mm lift springs for the swb GQs and they seemed to ok. Never had them in my truck though. Would think there would be dobis for the lwb but I could be wrong.

Yeah I have looked at the ones on 4wdbits. I read a few threads on here regarding EFS and about them not being all that flash. They are fairly pricey too.

I've run EFS springs and shocks in mine for the past 2 years with no complaints. I think all brands produce lemons but EFS had the best warranty so I went that way.

3" Cobra springs with nitro raw shocks are really good and you can get them here in Chch from chamberlain auto springs they actually make the cobra springs.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Buy cheap and you will get cheap!
You need to get shocks and springs that will match the load you will carry and the intended purpose.
The only real options are OME and EFS. (unless you have an unlimited budget that is) The rest are a mix and match so MIGHT be OK but aren't designed to work together.
My old winch truck with 75mm OME springs and matching shocks (twins in the front) handled better on 35" Simex than my LWB GQ with 2" lift, unmatched shocks and spring on 33" radial MT's. Sure it isn't a 100% fair comparison but it proves with some thought you can get improved offroad performance and improved on road performance. And this is what the likes of OME and EFS actually achieve.

It is easy and cheap to do a 3" lift but is the goal to lift the truck 3" or to make it perform better? If it is to lift it 3" then fit the cheapest nastiest crap you can find. If it is to increase performance then spend a little more and fit good quality shocks and springs that will achieve what you want.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
