Will a GU tie rod taper fit an 89 GQ and who's got one?

Snapped the tierod off yesterday rockhopping. Thinking of fitting a GU one to it. It snapped just short of the thread end so we had about 5 threadsa to hold it in. Question is are the GQ tie rod tappers the same as GU? And if so, does anyone have one they want to sell. Also thinking of making up my own one, alot stronger of course, any pointers from those that have done it?

No. Taper and diameter are different.

Thought so, must have been the later model Gq's that they fit then. Looks like I may just have to make one up.

Well I talked to two 4wd mechanics yesterday and they both said yes it can be done. One has done it themselves. So I am going to take the truck down on saturday morning and fit his to mine to see if it actually does, will keep you all posted.

GU - 20mmx1.5 pitch and has small taper,
GQ - 22mmx1.5 pitch and has larger taper.

Edit - I've had another thought. The thread on the GU tie-rod is alot longer than the GQ. So it is possible that even though it is 22mm dia versus 20mm of the GU, the extra length thread on the GU tie rod will allow you to still do the nut up, but not sure how much?

Will try and check with a club fella but I think he got some female tierod ends and threaded some solid bar to make a real tuff tierod, whats the advantage of fitting GU tierod ends?

Different set up where they go onto the joining tierod bar=stronger where mine broke. I reckon I'm going to just make one up using GQ tierods, less dicking around I think.

We were talking about this in the club last night. Dave said that he has fitted the GU tie rod to his GQ. Nissan will only sell you the GU.

Hi Al, don't tell me you F@#Ked your Tierod that can be removed and used as a heavy duty Crowbar I supose when you strengthen one piece you shift the FUSE to another.

GQ tie-rod end part numbers from Nissan,
4852-001J10 and 4857-001J10 for left and right hand, cant remember which is which, but you'll work it out.

You got it Fizty, didn't ben, snapped just shy of the end of the tierod thread. We had about 5 threads on which to thread it and it got me out and home. And yes take your own advice about toyoat parts. I will take you up on the offer of making me one when I get the gear together.
