Post by jeffbur »

i want to mount a winch to my escudo i have seen a t-max 2000 LB 12volt winch single line .85hp?12v permanent magnetic motor. will this be fine for getting myself out of trouble or do i need somthing more stronger? and where does one mount it? any help would be great. thanks. jeff

2000lb is a pretty small winch, there are some 5000lb winches around but 8000lb is pretty standard size

There are a few threads around about mounting winches onto zooks so spend an evening hunting around the archives on here and you'll find a few good threads full of pictures to look at

U need a strong mount to stick the winch on first. I start by searching for pics of trucks and looking at the good and bad points of the construction then try build or have something similar built. You could just buy a full bar too. That winch sounds like a boat trailer or atv winch which wouldn't really be suitable. If i was hunting for a winch for that sort of application maybe a second hand 12v warn m8000 would be what I'd look for.

a 6000lb winch would pull a zuk out sweet , but its not always just your truck you are going to end up pulling out.

9000lb is definitely preferable.

if you are only using it very little a 4000lb or near that superwinch would be the story, its light as and you can just double perchase the line to get a higher rating (8000lb) would be slow but if its to get you out of the s**t then its great. as for mounting its hard to do it yourself without a welder but its still possible.

yup i dont have a welder as yet so i guess i will have to get someone to weld one up for me  i found a t-max 9000LB 12volt winch that should fit the bill just nice but it will cost me $1650 for the winch. but hey got to start somewhere  so i will be getting the bits when i can and see if i can find someone who can help me out with the welding etc. this is going to be fun. thanks so far for the advice guys. jeff
